100 Quilt Blocks in 50 Days Winner

Every Quilt Has a Story

From October 19 through December 25, 2015, we hosted the 100 Quilt Blocks in 50 Days challenge where we showcased two different quilt blocks a day featuring Michael Miller's Cotton Couture fabrics. We asked that all contestants submit photos for a chance to win a Horizon Memory Craft 8900QCP Special Edition sewing machine. The winner of this great challenge was Chris B. from Michigan. Chris recreated the entire quilt and we couldn't be more impressed and proud of her hard work and dedication. She picked up her MC8900QCP Special Edition at Gall Sewing & Vacuum Center in Wyoming, MI. Both Chris and Becky from Gall were both super excited!

"I was "sew" thrilled to win the "100 Quilt Blocks in 50 Days Challenge" sponsored by Janome! Every quilt has a story so here is the story behind my lucky quilt.

I found out about the contest from Becky, who works at the Wyoming location of Gall Sewing in Grand Rapids. She strongly encouraged me and several other customers to participate and talked about winning the 8900QCP Special Edition sewing machine. I thought it would be a fun challenge and wondered how I could possibly fit it into my already lengthy list of unfinished projects already started.

Concurrently, I had a sister who lived in town, who unfortunately was involved in a car accident. She was hospitalized and I visited her every day. I told her about the challenge and she would often ask me about it and want to see the finished blocks. I would take them to share with her at the hospital and they really cheered her up because of all the bright colors. In mid-November, I decided I would gift the quilt to her for Christmas, even though it would take a little longer to finish it.

So my challenge was to continue everything else I had going on in my life: babysitting, teaching some quilting classes, visiting my sister at the hospital, getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas AND getting my quilt blocks completed! Working on the quilt blocks was usually something I did at the end of the day as a bit of 'therapy' and release following hectic days! I really appreciated not getting blocks on Saturday and Sunday so I could 'catch up'.

I finished the final 2 blocks on Christmas day, after all of the celebrations were complete and worked on borders through January 3. I submitted my final picture of the finished quilt top at 11:45pm that night. (Final deadline for entries was at midnight!). The very next day there was an email for me in the middle of the afternoon informing me that I was the winner! I couldn't believe it! My family was 'sew' excited for me. I then called Becky at Gall Sewing to tell her and she was almost as excited for me as I was for myself. She posted it to Facebook and all of my sewing friends found out and started congratulating me." - Chris

Congratulations Chris!
