Winners of the Janome Prom Photo Contest
From the 1930's to present day, teenagers nationwide enjoy the annual prom - a formal night of great music, food and fun with their dates and best friends upon high school graduation. One of the most magical parts of prom for a teeange girl is choosing the perfect dress.
Just like that magical moment, it was truly a special day for both Lisa C. and Carmel R. on June 1st when they found out they won the Janome Prom Photo Contest. The grand prize was a Skyline S5 sewing machine! Both New Yorkers were extremely excited and picked up their machine at Waddington Sewing Center in Lisbon, NY. Pictured below are images of Lisa and Carmel with Alice P. as they pick up their new Skyline machines last weekend.

Lisa made this beautiful green knee-length dress with her Janome Memory Craft 6600P machine in 2008. It was made from silk dupioni with crystals scattered throughout the fabric. The under layer has a gathered tulle petticoat in various shades of lime and light green. Lisa's daughter looks beautiful in this dress!
"I have been sewing for 40 years starting with simple projects on my mother's machine. When I had my daughter, I began making more elaborate children's clothes and household items. At 24, I did my first wedding gown and began seamstress work in my home. Currently, I work for a local bridal store and am remarkably busy from the start of prom season till the end of wedding season.
I have used many different machines and have blown motors in each and every one of them. 12 years ago, I decided to make a switch and started going to our local Janome dealer at Waddington Sewing Center. Alice and Joe have been wonderful and Janome has an amazing product line! I couldn't be any happier with Janome machines and the service I have received.
Since purchasing my first Janome machine, I have added six more to my collection. I currently run my business with two Janome sergers, one CoverPro, a MC6600P and a Horizon MC12000. I recommend Janome products to any one who is looking for a top quality and reliable machine built to take a beating.
Quilting is my new found love and I am sure I will be exploring long arms soon. Thanks Janome!" - Lisa C.

Carmel made this beautiful purple gown for her own senior prom in 1991. She looks stunning in this dress!
"I started sewing at 8 or 9 years old in 4H. My mother was my teacher and my first project using a sewing machine was a simple apron.
My next project was a blouse and each year after that I sewed at least one item of clothing and took those items of clothing to the 4H clothing review. It was a great learning experience as the judges made comments on what was done well and what needed work. They also offered suggestions on how to improve for future projects.
My mother says that she didn't do much to help my sister and me as we learned; she said that she didn't need to. Over the years in 4H, I made items such as blouses, dresses, skirts, sweat shirts and even a horse blanket. My senior year, I made my own prom dress. I loved it then and am even more thrilled with it now as it allowed me to enter the contest! My sister even wore it to one of her college formals.
In addition, I made a quilted pillow that went to the State Fair and received a blue ribbon. Since then, I have continued to sew making a number of dresses for my siblings’ weddings and other events.
In the past year I have gotten into quilting. I have completed two quilts and have a third that is ready to be quilted, I will use my Janome MB4 to quilt it with cow outlines for my niece who was the County Dairy Princess (she loves cows).
I am looking forward to using my new Janome Skyline S5. Thank you Janome!" - Carmel R.
