The winter/spring 1999 issue of Janome Digest takes a look at four gorgeous wedding gowns and gives you the insights and tips from the women who made them. This issue also features beautiful ring pillows, bridal shoes, veils, and more.
Plus, we complete three squares in our heirloom quilt, make a photo pillow, and bring you hints from Janome experts around the country.
Our bridal issue Guest Editor is renowned couture sewing expert and author Claire Shaeffer. She writes about the special details that make a wedding day so magical, then takes us back through wedding history to the origins of our favorite traditions.
The two featured gowns were sewn by Janome New Home Educators Marie Stevens and Coni Martin. The first gown, “The Princess,” was designed and sewn by Marie for her daughter Danielle's wedding. It combines elements from the wedding gowns of the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of York, as well as medieval inspiration. Our second gown was modified from an existing pattern by Coni for her daughter Tiffany. We call it “Tiffany’s Dream” because it embodies the grace and sophistication Coni wanted for Tiffany's walk down the aisle.
The popular Quarterly Quilter continues our ongoing heirloom quilt by completing three blocks: The Fancy Band block with delicate lace squares, a Victorian Boot block with floral highlights, and the all-important Signature block commemorating the creation of the quilt.
Kids will love the Friendship Pillow project featured in our Children’s Corner. Using photo transfer paper and some creative embroidery, children (and grownups) can use a favorite snapshot to make a memorable pillow.
