Many graphic images do not have outlines, so outlines are not created automatically along with the embroidery. We can add outlines after a design is created.
For this exercise, we will add an outline of run stitches and triple run stitches. To demonstrate how this is done, we will use the Yacht bitmap in the Embroidery Album.

The Open dialog box appears.
Click Yacht once to see the image in the Preview pane. Click Open to bring it to the design screen.

Click the Image Preparation icon.

Click OK on the Image Preparation dialog box.
Click the Click-to-Design icon.

The Click-to-Design dialog box will appear.

Click Auto Select under Fills. Omit white under colors. Click OK.
We will use triple run stitches as the outline except where we have to sew twice over an area. In those areas, we will switch to single run stitch.
Click the Run Line icon.

Click the Object Details icon.

Click the Line Stitch tab.
Click Triple to set Triple run line. Change the Stitch Length to 2.2. Run line outlines look better when the stitch length is shortened.

Click OK.
Most outlines are black, so set the thread color.
Click the Thread icon.

Click #002, Black.
Magnify the design screen.
There is no correct way to add an outline. The suggestions we show here are only to show you technique. Every digitizer creates embroidery differently from ever other one.
The most important consideration when digitizing outlines is that they flow without breaks and minimize jump stitches.
