This lovely notebook cover uses the beautiful Kiyoumi Osawa Embroidery Collection to add a personal touch to the front of any notepad. Customize the sizing of this project to any notebook or substitute your favorite Osawa design from the Flowers and Butterflies collection.

Janome Supplies Required:

  • Memory Craft 11000, 10001, 10000, 9700, 9500, 300E (embroidery only), 350E (embroidery only)
  • Osawa Flowers & Butterflies CD
  • DigitizerPro or Customizer 11000
  • Clothsetter
  • USB Cable or storage device (ATA PC Card or USB memory stick)
  • SQ Embroidery Hoop (square) or RE Hoop or B Hoop
  • Embroidery Foot P
  • Zigzag Foot A
  • 1/4" Foot O
  • Janome Embroidery Thread - colors required for design
  • Janome Bobbin Thread
  • Red Tip Needle size 14 (for embroidery)
  • Blue Tip Needle size 11 (for ordinary sewing)

Fabric and Notions Required

  • 1/3 yd Brown Canvas
  • 1/2 yd Trim (optional)
  • Iron-on Stabilizer
  • Brown All-Purpose Sewing Thread
  • Notebook (6" x 9" spiral bound - steno pad)

Cutting Instructions (From Brown Fabric)

  1. Cut one 9" x 21"
  2. For pockets, cut two 7 1/4" x 8 1/2"

Instructions

  1. Set up the Memory Craft for Professional-style embroidery.
  2. Connect USB cable to machine or use desired storage device for data transfer.
  3. Turn on computer and prepare to install CD.
  4. Install Kiyomi Osawa Collection Vol. 1 CD onto computer. Follow directions for loading designs.
  5. Using either DigitizerPro or Customizer 11000 import design F04.jef.
  6. Click on lettering and select "Galant" font, size "M".
  7. Type Osawa or desired lettering. Bring the lettering to the screen. Place it in the lower right hand corner near the base of the stem.
  8. Print a template.
  9. Send design to machine or save to storage device.
  10. Open design in the machine.
  11. Mark crosshairs on the fabric where the design is to be stitched.
  12. Place the template on the fabric matching the crosshairs. The crosshairs should be approximately 4 1/2" up from the bottom and 4 1/2" in from either side.
  13. Stabilize fabric. Hoop the fabric, using the Clothsetter for perfect placement.
  14. Stitch out design.
  15. Remove excess stabilizer.
  16. Trim fabric to 20 1/2" x 8 1/4".
  17. On both long sides, turn under fabric (wrong sides together) 1/2" and press.
  18. Set up machine for Ordinary sewing, straight stitch. Adjust the stitch length to 2.6.
  19. Attach Zigzag Foot A.
  20. Take one pocket piece and turn under one of the short sides 1/2" and press. Pocket should now equal 7 1/4" x 8". Repeat for other pocket piece.
  21. Topstitch the pressed flap in place.
  22. Replace Zigzag Foot A with 1/4" Seam Foot O.
  23. With right sides together, place the two pocket pieces at either end of the long embroidered section.
  24. Stitch all four sides.
  25. Note: this will make it easier to turn and press long sides.
  26. Trim corners and turn right side out and press.
  27. Insert notebook.
