Fun with faux suede, beads, rhinestone buttons and a French strap! The instructions for this purse show you just how easy it is to embellish with beads. Use any Janome sewing machine for this quick, easy and delightful purse.
Janome Supplies Required:
- Any Janome machine
- Satin Stitch foot F
- Zipper Foot E
- 1/4 Seam foot O
- Sliding Buttonhole foot R
- Blue Tip needle 75/11
Fabric and Notions Required
- 1/3 yd. faux suede
- 1/3 yd. lining fabric
- 1/3 yd. of home dec beads
- All purpose thread
- Pressing cloth
- Button
- Ruler
Fabric Preparation
- Using pattern piece #1, cut one from faux suede and one from lining fabric.
- Using pattern piece #2, cut one from faux suede and one from lining fabric.
- Cut a 3" x 29" strip of faux suede for the strap.

Instructions
- Set up Janome sewing machine for ordinary sewing.
- Attach the Satin Stitch foot F.
- Select Straight Stitch #1.
- Fold under 1/2" along one of the long sides of the strap piece. Press.
- Fold the same edge under 1/2" again. Press.
- Tuck the opposite edge under the pressed edge. Secure with pins.
- Topstitch the folded edge. The fold will be in the middle of the strap.
- Using 1/8" seam allowance, topstitch both long sides of the strap.
- On the right side, mark the bottom center on the large faux suede section (#1) with a pin.
- Measure 2 1/2" out from the center on both sides. Mark with a pin.
- On the right side, pin the ends of the strap to the left and right of the two pins on each side.
- Stitch along previous stitching about 4 1/2" up from the bottom.
- Attach the 1/4" Seam foot O.
- Sew the small faux suede piece (#2) and the small lining piece (#2) together at the top only, right sides together.
- Press seam as sewn. Press seam open.
- Turn right side out. Press again.
- Mark the center bottom of the small section with a pin.
- Measure in 1 1/2" from both sides of the bottom. Mark with pins.
- Place the bead strip between the two outside pins on the right side of the faux suede fabric. The bead ribbon should be lined up with raw edge of fabric.
- Attach the Zipper foot E.
- Adjust the stitch width to 0.0.
- Stitch the bead strip.
- Layer the sections as follows:
- Large lining section - right side up
- Small section - faux suede side up
- Large faux suede section - wrong side up
- Stitch across the bottom only. Use the right side of the foot as a guide for the raw edge of the fabric.
- Open and check to see that none of the bead ribbon is showing.
- Make a 1 1/2" side gusset on both sides. Secure the sides with pins.
- Attach the 1/4" Seam foot O.
- Sew both sides and across the top, leave a 3" opening for turning right side out.
- Turn right side out and hand stitch the opening closed.
- Determine where the flap will fold down and mark with a pin.
- Topstitch both sides of the strap to the fold down pin.
- If desired, sew a button and buttonhole for closure.
