Monogramming purchased items is so quick and easy. Make a special Father's Day project for your Dad this year using the Customizer program and your Memory Craft. Adding designs from Janome's Memory Card library can individualize your gift.

Janome Supplies Required:

  • Any Janome Embroidery Machine (This project was created on the MC1000)
  • Customizer 11000, 10000 or 2000
  • Card Reader 10000 (MC10000 Only)
  • USB or RS232C cable, or ATA PC Card
  • Memory Card #142(Scroll Designs) or any suitable design
  • Clothsetter 10000 or other model
  • Giga Hoop D (MC10000 only ) Square Hoop (MC11000 )
  • Embroidery Hoop “B”
  • Embroidery foot P
  • Janome Embroidery thread
  • Janome Bobbin thread
  • Blue Tip needle 75/11

Fabric and Notions Required:

  • Purchased blanket or throw
  • Iron on tear-away stabilizer
  • Water soluble stabilizer
  • Fabric marking pen
  • Lightweight tear-away stabilizer
  • All purpose thread
  • Fabric marking pen

Creating the Layout
MC10000

  1. Open Customizer 10000 EasyEdit.
  2. Click the Monogram icon on the toolbar.

  3. Type "Dad's". Select Script 20 font. Select the Arc Layout Orientation.
  4. Click Register. Using the solid red dot at the left drag the letters closer together. Place the cursor on the center point (first red hollow circle) and drag up to create a slight curve.
  5. Click Color. Select a thread color of your choice. Click OK
    Note: Click NO when prompted to "Save current design?".
  6. Click Monogram on the toolbar.
  7. Type "Blanket". Select Script 20 font. Select the Arc Layout Orientation.
  8. Click Register. Using the solid red dot at the left, drag the letters closer together or father apart as desired. Place the cursor on the center point (first red hollow circle) and drag down to create a curve.
  9. Click Color. Select a thread color of your choice. Click OK.
  10. Click Monogram on the toolbar.
  11. Type "Security". Select Gothic 20. Select Straight Layout Orientation. Click Register.
  12. Click Color. Select a thread color of your choice. Click OK
  13. Arrange the words according to the sample.
  14. Connect the Card Reader 10000 to the Memory Craft 10000.
  15. Insert Memory card #142 (Scroll Designs) into the Card Reader.
  16. Press the Embroidery Mode key.
  17. Press the Edit tab.
  18. Press the Card Reader tab. Select design #14.
  19. Save the design to the Built-in memory or an ATA PC Card. Filename "Border 14".
  20. Transfer the design to the computer via direct PC Link or remove the ATA PC Card from the machine and insert it into your computer.
  21. Click Import. Open the "Border 14" design.
  22. Click and drag the design to one side of the lettering.
    Hint: Place the cursor on the corner and drag to increase the size of the design to fit the lettering.
  23. Click Copy. Click Paste. Position second scroll design to the opposite side.
  24. Click Flip H to mirror image the design.
  25. Click Combine. Click and drag the combine box until all the words are grayed out. Click Yes.
  26. Save the layout as an arrange file. Filename "Blanket".
  27. Print a template for perfect placement with the Clothsetter.
  28. Transfer the layout to the MC10000 via USB, RS232C or ATA PC Card.


MC9000, MC5700, MC5000,

  1. Open Customizer 2000 EasyEdit.
  2. Click the Monogram icon on the toolbar.
  3. Type "Dad's". Select Script 20 font. Select the Arc Layout Orientation.
  4. Click Register. Using the solid red dot at the left drag the letters closer together. Place the cursor on the center point (first red hollow circle) and drag up to create a slight curve.
  5. Click Color. Select a thread color of your choice. Click OK
    Note: Click NO when prompted to "Save current design?".
  6. Click Monogram on the toolbar.
  7. Type "Blanket". Select the Straight Line orientation. Type the word Blanket. Click Register. Click OK.
    Hint: To achieve the downward curve shown in the sample, use Free Layout and individually arrange "blanket" in an arc shape.
  8. Click Color. Select a thread color of your choice. Click OK
  9. Click Monogram on the toolbar.
  10. Type "Security". Select Gothic 20. Select Straight Layout Orientation. Click Register.
  11. Click Color. Select a thread color of your choice. Click OK.
  12. Arrange the words according to the sample.
  13. Connect the Memory Craft Reader/Writer to your computer.
  14. Insert Memory Card #142 (Scroll Designs).
  15. Click ScanCard on the toolbar. Select Read from ScanCard.
  16. When the download is complete, save the designs to a location of choice.
    Hint: Scroll to C drive, Program files, Janome, Customizer 2000,My Designs.
  17. Click on the new folder icon. Name the New folder "Border 142".
  18. In the file name box, type the word "Border". Each design on the Memory Card will have the prefix "Border" followed by a number.
  19. Click Import. Locate the Border 142 folder. Select Border14 design.
  20. Click and drag the design to one side of the lettering.
    Hint: Place the cursor on the corner and drag to increase the size of the design to fit the lettering.
  21. Click Copy. Click Paste. Position second scroll design to the opposite side.
  22. Click Flip H to mirror image the design.
  23. Click Combine. Click and drag the combine box until all the words are grayed out. Click Yes.
  24. Save the layout as an arrange file. Filename "Blanket".
  25. Print a template for perfect placement with the Clothsetter.
  26. Send the layout to the ScanCard.
  27. Remove the ScanCard and insert into the machine.


Professional-Style Embroidery

  1. Set up the Memory Craft for Professional-Style Embroidery.
  2. Fuse iron on tear-away on the wrong side of the blanket.
  3. Mark the crosshairs for each design with the fabric marking pen.
  4. Place the blanket in the hoop using the Clothsetter for perfect placement.
  5. Attach the hoop to the Memory Craft.
  6. Stitch the first design.
  7. Re-hoop for each design as above.
