Fabric Preparation
1. Prewash and press the fabrics.
2. Cut out the circular skirt pieces according to the pattern directions. Cut the belt loop piece 1” X 26”.
3. Carefully press the left side seam of each skirt panel 3/8” to the wrong side, keep in mind the seam is on the bias so take care not to stretch the fabric as you press.
Note: Please refer to the 1200D Instruction Manual for specific directions.
Construction
1. Set up the 1200D for a 3-thread Cover Stitch. Attach the Felling Guide (F-4) and the Chain Stitch Foot (F).
2. Place the first skirt panel right side up with the raw edge into the lower guide of F-4. Insert the folded edge of the second skirt panel into the upper guide section and position both layers under the presser foot. Lower the needles into the fabric and lower the presser foot. Sew the first two stitches by turning the handwheel towards you. Sew the seam at a medium speed checking the fabric positions often.
3. Sew each side seam in this manner. Press all the seams. If necessary straighten the hem line so that it is even all the way around the skirt.
4. Press a 1” hem to the wrong side all the way around the bottom of the skirt.
5. Attach the Chain Stitch Foot (M) to the machine. Position the hem of the skirt into the Hemming Guide (H-2) right side up. Snap the H-2 guide onto the foot.
6. Sew the first two stitches by turning the handwheel towards you. Sew the seam at a medium speed checking the fabric position often.
7. Attach the Belt Loop Foot (L). Cut one end of the belt loop strip at a 45º angle. Insert this end into the foot right side up. Pull the strip under the foot and extend it behind the foot. Lower the needles into the fabric and then lower the presser foot. Sew the first two stitches by turning the handwheel towards you. Sew the seam at a medium speed. Cut four 5” long belt loops.
8. Set up the 1200D for a 4-thread Overlock. Sew the waistband, belt loops, and belt following the pattern’s directions.
Note: The topstitching can be made using your sewing machine or a chainstitch. Nancy used the 1200D chain stitch to topstitch the casing for the elastic.
