Monogrammed Pajamas For Dad

Dad will love to wear these soft, comfortable pajamas. And having his monogram on the pocket will make him feel like a million bucks. Quick serger construction makes this an ideal gift project.
Use any Janome Embroidery machine that has 3-letter monogramming. This project was made on the MC10001; the Janome serger was the 644D.
Janome Supplies Required:
- Memory Craft 11000, MC10001, MC 10000, MC9700, MC9500,
MC300E, MC350E
- CoverPro 1000CP Cover Hem Machine
- Any Janome serger
- Clothsetter 11000 or 10000
- ST Embroidery Hoop (MC11000)
- Embroidery Hoop A (MC10001, MC10000, MC9700, MC9500, MC300E, and
MC350E)
- Zig zag foot A
- Ditch Quilting foot
- Buttonhole foot R
- Embroidery foot P
- Janome Embroidery thread #001 (White)
- Janome Pre-Wound Bobbins
- Blue Tip needle 75/11
Fabric and Notions Required:
- McCalls pattern 4244, top View A, pants View C
- Fabric and notions according to pattern (100% medium-weight cotton knit was used for the pants. 100% cotton flannel was used for the top).
- All purpose sewing thread in a color to match fabric
- All purpose serger thread: ?-Four spools of each of in a color to match fabric ?-Four spools of a contrasting color
- Iron-on tear-away stabilizer
- Fabric marking pen
- Pen or pencil for marking paper pattern
- Ruler
Fabric Preparation Pajama Top
- Cut out pattern View A according to pattern instructions, except for the shirt pocket.
- For the pocket, cut out an 8" x 10" block of fabric and two 8" x 10" pieces of iron-on, tear-away stabilizer.
- Press both pieces of stabilizer to the wrong side of the fabric.
- Mark the center of the fabric. Position the longest ends of the fabric vertically in the embroidery hoop and use the Clothsetter for perfect embroidery placement.
Professional Style Embroidery:
- Set up the Memory Craft for Professional-Style Embroidery.
- Attach hoop to the carriage.
- Press the Embroidery Mode key.
- Press the Monogram key. Press the Font key and select the 3 Letter tab.
- Press the desired Border. The border will appear.
- Select three monogram letters.
- Press OK.
- Press Edit.
- Select Size.
- Press the minus key until it reads 80%.
- Press OK.
- Press OK again.
- Sew out the design.
- Remove the embroidery from the hoop and tear away the stabilizer. Press from wrong side of fabric.
Pajama Top Construction:
- Fold pattern piece "8" (pocket A or B) in half lengthwise. Mark the center line.
- Mark a line across the top of the pocket pattern piece 2 1/2" down from the hemline.
- Lay this pattern piece over the monogrammed fabric matching the center lines. Pin the pattern piece to the fabric and cut out the pocket.
- Cut out a 1 1/2" x 5 3/4" contrasting band from the pajama pants fabric.
- On the long sides, fold and press 1/4" to the wrong side.
- On the right side of the pocket, align one folded edge along the hemline of the pocket and pin.
- Set up the Memory Craft up for Ordinary sewing.
- Attach Ditch Quilting foot.
- Select Straight stitch #1.
- Press the Adjust key and set the needle position at 1.5.
- Press OK.
- On the right side of the pocket, align the edge of the band against the guide on the Ditch Quilting foot. Stitch the top edge of the band to the pocket.
- Turn under 1/4" on the top edge of the pocket and press.
- Attach Zig-zag foot A and adjust needle position to 3.5.
- Construct pocket according to pattern instructions EXCEPT attach the Ditch Quilting foot and adjust the needle position to 1.5 to stitch the hem in place through all layers.
- Follow pattern instructions to stitch pocket to top.
- Set up serger for a four-thread overlock. Use all-purpose serger thread to match fabric in needles and loopers. Refer to the owner's manual for setting suggestions.
- Stitch fronts to back at shoulder seams. Press seams toward the back.
- Attach sleeves according to pattern instructions. Press seams toward pajama top.
- Set up the CoverPro for a Triple Cover Stitch. Use all-purpose serger thread in a contrasting color in the needles and looper. Refer to the owner's manual for setting suggestions.
- Sew a Triple Cover Stitch around the bottom, the neck and front, sides, and the sleeve cap seam by aligning the right edge of the CoverPro presser foot with the wrong side of the fabric edge.
- With wrong sides together, fold and press the bottom edge of the sleeve under 1 1/4 ".
- Unfold the pressed edge.
- On the wrong side of the sleeve, align the right edge of the CoverPro presser foot along the crease line and stitch a Triple Cover Stitch across the width of each sleeve.
- Align the underarm seam, right sides together, matching armhole seams and notches. On the serger, stitch all the way down the side of the top with a four-thread overlock. (On our sample, the slit on the side was eliminated.)
- Construct and attach the facing according to pattern instructions.
- Fold under the sleeve hem along the pressed hemline.
- Hem the top and sleeves, and sew buttons and buttonholes according to pattern instructions.
