Opposites Attract is inspired by Marie Osmond's Blanc et Noir Fashion fabric collection. This sophisticated group of fabrics is black and white with a pop of fuchsia. There are also many in reverse prints to add to the fun possibilities. They were perfect for the quilt that I had in mind to make. With the use of the Circular sewing attachment the circular piecing is done in a fun and easy way! I hope that this inspires the endless possibilities that can be created.
Janome Supplies Needed:
Any Janome sewing machine (Alba used the MO200 QC)
Circular sewing Attachment (Part #200024109)
Ultraglide foot (Part #200329004)
Custom Crafted Zig Zag foot F (Part #200137003)
¼” Seam foot O (Part #2003180000)
Robison Anton 50wt Cotton thread - Black
Blue Tip 75/11 needle
Fabric and Notions Needed:
For one Block:
Two - 6 ½” squares of a background fabric (fat Quarter)
Marie Osmond - Blanc et Noir Companions 20445
Two - 6 ½” squares of a contrast color fabric (fat Quarter)
Note: I used the following fabric from Marie Osmond - Blanc et Noir Fashion
20697, 20717, 20715, 20696, 20702, 20713, 20698, 20716, 20701-J
Four - 6 ½” squares of tear away stabilizer
Four - 4” times width of fabric (same as the background fabric)
Note: You will need 9 Blocks to complete the wall hanging.
Four yds - - Double fold bias tape
1 ¼ yds - Backing Marie Osmond - Blanc et Noir Companions 20445
40” x 40” - Batting
All-purpose sewing thread
Rotary Cutter and ruler
Small appliqué scissors
Quilter’s safety pins
Fabric marking Pen/Pencil
Note: If desired, the contrast color can be different for each block. If you choose this option, it looks best to have the background color remain the same for each block.
Instructions:
1. Mark center lines (3 ¼”) on all 6 ½” squares including the stabilizer
2. With the right sides up layer the stabilizer and fabrics in the following order:
• 2 squares with: Stabilizer - Background color and Contrast color on top
• 2 squares with: Stabilizer - Contrast Color and Background color on top
Note: Make sure to carefully match all center markings. If desired, pin to secure the layers together.
3. Snap on the Ultraglide foot. Remove the Bobbin Cover and replace with the Circular
Sewing Attachment. Set the Circular Sewing Attachment on the 2” mark.
4. Place the center mark on the pin of the Circular Sewing Attachment. Place the cap
on top of the pin.
5. Insert a Blue Tip needle and thread the machine with the Black cotton thread in both
the needle and bobbin. Select Mode 1, Stitch #1. Adjust the stitch length to 3.0.
6. Sew a complete circle. This is the outline for the next step, cutting.
7. Do not remove the fabric layers from the sewing machine. Raise the presser foot and
with small appliqué scissors trim away the first layer of fabric (large piece, concave
curve) as close to the sewing line as possible.
8. Lower the presser foot. Select Mode 1, Stitch #6. Adjust the stitch width to 3.5 and
the stitch length to .35.
9. Sew a complete circle.
10. Repeat for the remaining blocks. Make sure to keep all the fabrics together by block.
11. Once all squares are sewn, cut on the lines drawn and remove the stabilizer. Each
block will yield four 3 ¼” squares.
12. Snap on the ¼” foot O. Using a straight stitch, sew the squares together following the
diagram below. Finished block size should be 11 ½”
13. Repeat for 8 more blocks.

14. Once all 9 Blocks are competed, arrange the blocks according to the finished picture.
Note: I used reverse prints which were set at opposing corners so that they would be reverse of each other.

Tip: When laying out the blocks be careful that the “pattern within the pattern” is forming correctly.
15. Sew the blocks together to create the wall hanging top.
16. Sew the 4” border to both sides and then the top and bottom.
17. Layer the wall hanging top, batting and backing. Pin to secure the layers together.
17. Quilt as desired.
18. Bind the outside edge using the double fold bias tape; add a label and your wall
hanging is complete.
