Fleece has become one of the most beloved fabrics to work with. It shows up in blankets, pajamas and outerwear. Dress it up with a decorative chain stitch and some beads and now you can wear your warm fleece garment to the office and then attend a special event that evening.

Janome Supplies Required:

  • CoverPro 1000CP or 900 CP
  • CoverPro Binder Attachment
  • CoverPro Needles EL x 705 size 90/14
  • Any Janome Serger
  • Janome Overlock Thread
  • Janome Serger needles Size 14

Fabric and Notions Required:

  • Any vest pattern (Butterick #6712 was used for our sample)
  • Fabric and notions according to the pattern
  • Varigated Quilting thread
  • Bugle Beads

Instructions:

  • Set up the CoverPro for a Chain Stitch.
  • Thread the Looper with Variegated Quilting Thread and thread the needle with matching serger thread.
  • Place a scrap of fleece under the presser foot and sew a test sample.
  • Adjust looper tension for a smooth stitch.
  • Place the fleece under the presser foot right side down, and sew random rows of chain stitch all over the fabric.
  • Cut out the pattern pieces from the embellished fabric.
  • Set up the CoverPro for a two thread cover stitch.
  • Thread the looper, and both needles with Janome Overlock thread.
  • Following the directions on the package, use the CoverPro Binder attachment to sew seam binding to the pockets, armholes and neckline of the vest.
  • Construct the vest according to the pattern directions.

Sew the bugle beads randomly along the Double Chain Stitch, string some beads and attach it to the zipper pull to add the extra touch that makes this vest a standout.
