Valentine Sachets

Make this little scented gift with heart-shaped embroidery for a loved one or for yourself this Valentine's Day. You can fill it with potpourri or polyester filling. It can be used for decoration on a doorknob or place it in a drawer.
Janome Supplies Required:
- Memory Craft 10001, 10000, 9500, or 300E (embroidery only)
- PC Design Card #1018 (Redwork Collection)
- Clothsetter 10000
- Standard Hoop A
- Embroidery Foot P
- Janome Embroidery thread #225(Red)
- Janome Bobbin thread
- Blue Tip needle 75/11
Optional:
- Digitizer 10000
- USB or RS232C cable, or ATA PC Card
- Redwork Collection CD-ROM
Fabric and Notions Required:
- 2 rectangles white linen or broadcloth
- 1/2 yd. red baby rickrack
- 1 red tassel or material to make one
- Iron on tearaway stabilizer
- Wash away marking pen
- All purpose thread
- Potpourri or polyester filling
Professional-Style Embroidery:
- Set up the Memory Craft for Professional-Style Embroidery.
- Thread the needle with Janome Embroidery thread #225 (Red). Wind the Bobbin with Janome Bobbin thread.
- Insert PC Design Card #1018 (Redwork Collection) into the machine.
- Press the Embroidery Mode key.
- Press the PC Card tab. Select design #65.
- Iron stabilizer on to the wrong side of your fabric.
- Place fabric in the Standard Hoop "A" using the Clothsetter 10000 for perfect placement.
- Sew the fist step. Press the Go Back key.
- Select the design with the initial you are going to use.
- Do not stitch the first color. Stitch the second color (the initial) over the previously stitched heart.
Digitizer 10000 (optional):
- Open Digitizer 10000 EasyDesign.
- Transfer design #65 from PC Design Card #1018 (Redwork Collection). If using the CD ROM, insert into your computer.
- Click Embroidery. Click Insert Design. Open design #65.
- Click View. Click Show. Click Selected Color Only.
- Select 244 Cardinal Red. Click OK.
- Click Edit. Click Select All. Press the Delete key on your keyboard, the H will disappear.
- Click View. Click Show. Click All Objects. You will have the heart without a letter.
- Save design as an *.JAN and *.JEF. Filename "heart"
- Click New.
- Click Embroidery. Click Insert Design. Choose one of the alphabet designs with the initial you wish you use.
- Click View. Click Show. Click Select Color Only
- Select 225 Red. Click OK. The background redwork design should be on the screen.
- Click Edit. Click Select All. Press the Delete key on your keyboard, the design will disappear.
- Save design as an *.JAN and *.JEF. Filename "letter".
- Close window. The Heart design should be on the screen. If not, open "heart" design.
- Click Embroidery. Click Insert Design. Open "letter" design.
- Save design as an *.JAN and *.JEF. Filename "sachet".
- Print a template for perfect placement with the Clothsetter 10000.
- Transfer the design to your machine via USB, RS232C or ATA PC Card.
Construction:
- Set up the Memory Craft for Ordinary sewing.
- Remove the stabilizer from the back of the embroidery.
- Cut around the heart in the shape you desire.
Hint: You may want to add some decorative stitching around the embroidery as in our sample.
- Cut a second piece of fabric in the same shape.
- Fold the rickrack in half and place on the right side of the heart with the two ends extending out 1" at the top of the heart.
- Place the tassel at the bottom in the same way as the rickrack.
- Place the two pieces of the heart, right sides together.
- Sew around leaving an opening for stuffing. Make sure the loop is not caught in the stitching,
- Turn right side out. Press.
- Stuff with potpourri or polyester filling.
- Close the opening with a hand whipped stitch.
