Explore with texture and color in this simple project using the Photoclick feature of Digitizer Pro/MB. Clipart images offer unlimited possibilities to explore and it’s SEW easy! Create additional visual interest by selecting a colored fabric or a tone on tone print for the background. Don’t be afraid to use thread in bright or contrasting colors. Remember you are creating art so express yourself. This project uses cotton Lame’ for the embroidery background and upholstery remnants for the contrasting pieces.

  • Select the SQ hoop and check that the Display Image icon is selected.
  • Check that the Resequence tool is selected so that the Resequence tool bar is open during the digitizing process.
  • Check that the Visualizer icon is deselected – many tools will not work efficiently when the Visualizer is on.

    Clip Art Fun

Open DigitzerPro/MB. Select the SQ hoop. Click Image> Insert Image. Navigate to
Folder where your image is saved.

    1. Use the selection handles (small black squares) on the corners of the image to resize the image to fill the width of the hoop.

    2. Click on the Photo Click Instantly icon  to generate the stitches.

Note: Deselect (turn off) the Display Images icon  to remove the background image.

    3. Select Copy then Paste. A new design will generate over the first. With the pasted design selected, Change the color to 255 Toast.

    4. Select the Toast object and move to the right and down about ½ square of the grid to
offset its position from the red object.

    5. Click on the Object Details icon to open the Object Details dialog box.

    6. Click the Photo Click tab and change the Grain Angle to 90°. Click OK to regenerate the stitches. Then replace on top of the first design.
    7. Click on the Visualizer icon to view the design as it would be stitched.

    8. Zoom in 150%. You will be able to see the difference in the angle the stitches.

    9. Save the design as ShadowMotif.jan in the folder of your choice.

    10. Now experiment on your own with overlapping designs by changing the stitch angle of each design. Use the same angle on each design, then offset the layers or create opposing angles for another effect. Use Resequence to bring the lower design to the top to play with the color focus. The possibilities are never ending!

    Just for fun:
    • Select Object Details after creating a Photo Click design and then under the Photo Click tab change the Background to Dark to create a reverse image of the original photo.
    • By clicking on the image or object a second time the black sizing handles will turn clear. Now you can rotate and skew the shape of the design.
    • Change the grain angle and stitch angle found under Object Details to change the details of the design.
    • Use stamps from the Embroidery Gallery to add fine details such as corners to a Photo Click design.
    • Add details with stitch tools such as Triple Run Line, Motif Run Line, or the Border tool.
    • Use the Image> Touch Up to modify the image in the Paint program as follows:

    1. Import the image>Select Photoclick to create the first design. Change color to Blue 207
    2. Drag the image away from the design, then Select Image on the Menu Bar.
    3. Select Touch Up>choose Paint

    4. In the Paint program, erase some of the elements.

    5. Close the Paint program and the modified image will automatically return to the Digitizer screen.
    6. Select Photoclick again. The new image will appear.
    7. Drag this over the first design for a new effect

    Tips:
The density and stitch patterns require a firm stabilizer for any Photoclick design. We recommend at least one layer of firm tear away stabilizer or 2 layers of medium weight, to be hooped with the fabric.
If the fabric is light weight as in the Cotton Lame’ used in this project, prepare the fabric with an iron on interfacing. Knit fuse was used in this project.

Use your embroider designs in your favorite Quilt pattern for an eclectic wall hanging.
