I purchased this machine used from a dealer in the UK (I live in Houston, TX-USA) for a very low price cos nobody wanted it- Just 220 pounds + shipping, for a total of 410.00 USD equivalent, and included full service from that dealer!!!! A machine that is 1000s of dollars more!!! I feel so lucky!!! The machine is AWESOME!!!! I got it cos I wanted something easy and of good quality so I got it!!! I already owned a Bernina B830, a workhorse and very capable machine, but with a very steep learning curve, and some other machines from Brother, Juki, Viking and Baby Lock, and a Janome MC 9500 that I still have for smaller projects. This machine is in a league of itself. I can do Sewing, Quilting and specially Embroidery in a very compact frame compared to the Bernina, the Brother, and the others. It has a very convenient adjustable Knee Lifter, a feature that is very convenient when used together with the Free Motion Zig Zag feature of the machine. This combination allows you to do Free Motion Embroidery like old treadle machines by controlling the width of the zig zag stitch with your knee, allowing to do your own Embroidery design on the run, directly from your imagination and using the Zig Zag stitch plate!!! I am still learning to do that cos I have right knee movement problems due to arthritis, but is a lot of fun!!! Also, it has very powerful capability like combining ornamental stitches into embroidery designs with just two or three clicks, and the high definition Color Touch with its very comprehensive but easy Menu screen is very capable and very easy to use with your fingers or a stylus to do this. It has 435 built-in sewing stitches + combinations, and 335+ built-in embroidery designs, but with the combination abilities of the machine, it becomes into THOUSANDS!!! And it has USB connectivity so I can transfer Designs very easily from my computer using a USB Stick. The embroidery unit is a delight to use, and it has a very slim design, not the bulky one like with the other machines, and it can be used for both Sewing and Quilting, as well as Embroidery. This unit can help you to sew hems, binding and borders very easily with just a few clicks away. And the machine has Walking foot capabilities too!!! It comes with two attachments for that, one narrow-5.5 mm, and a wider one of 9.0 mm, and they cover all bases!!! I got the Circular Attachment for it and have been able to combine all those features to produce designs in drapes, curtains, table runners and other flat panels. They have been very useful when embellishing garments such as plain Cuban Guayaberas, Long sleeve Shirts, Sweaters, Hoodies, Onesies and many others. I don’t see any big limitation to what I can do. The only limitation I am having is that the machine only recognizes .JEF embroidery format and its variants, and the largest hoop it can use is 12″ x 9″. That is why I have a PFAFF machine that is able to stitch not only PFAFF embroidery formats, but 11 other, including .JEF, .PES, .EXP, .DST and several others, plus a 14″ x 14″ hoop. But the Embroidery quality of this Janome is exceptional taking into consideration that is a machine from 2009!!! And so easy to use, as easy or more than the Brother or PFAFF, maybe more, and is super QUIET!!!!! And so far I have not have any usability issue, give it regular maintenance, clean the stitch area after each big project and the sort. I only wish for it to have Wi Fi, a larger embroidery area and multi embroidery format, but as far as I know, no Janome, even the Continental M17, have this feature, only Viking and PFAFF. Now, my daily use machines are this Janome 12000, the MC 9500, and the powerful Pfaff Creative Icon 2. I feel like in heaven with these machines, the three of them complement each other so well, specially since I added this MC 12000!!!! I strongly recommend any model from Janome!!!
