First Stitches Sewing Store & Quilt Shop began in the back of a used bookstore in downtown Cañon City, Colorado in the fall of 2012. Kimberly Smith, owner, set out to provide sewing machine sales and service, along with sewing and quilting classes, to the local area. Her husband, Randy, attended numerous sewing machine technical trainings, and began servicing many makes and models of sewing and embroidery machines. In 2013, due to customer demand, Kim added fabrics, notions, and threads. First Stitches quickly outgrew their modest space in the bookstore, and Randy purchased the “Little Brick Building” just off of US Route 50 on South 4th Street.
