FSU Panama City Sewing Club

Sewing for the Local Community

Using a variety of Janome sewing machines, students at Florida State University-Panama City's sewing club powered through the stitching of 60 pillowcases for local foster children. "Janome machines are perfect for beginner sewists," Janome Artisan Milinda Stephenson, club sponsor and Professor of English at FSU-PC said. "Students can be hard on machines, but even with rough treatments, these machines have yet to have any stitching, tension or other annoying problems common to cheaper machines."

The students are currently working on stitching together 60 bags that they plan to fill with a pillowcase, stuffed animal, toothbrush, toothpaste and a hairbrush for the children. "I'm amazed at the dedication of these students. They work hard and love not only learning how to sew, but teaching each other. The sewing club has become an event students look forward to."

Janome is so proud of Milinda and these students for all of the hard work they have been dedicating to help the local community.
