The Modern Girl's Guide to Sewing

First Place Winner

In August, Janome Blogger Merrick White from Merrick's Art and her best friend Leanne Barlow from Elle Apparel launched The Modern Girl's Guide to Sewing, a two-part online video course that teaches beginner and intermediate sewing enthusiasts everything they need to know about modern clothing construction.

As part of this program, Merrick and Leanne hosted a giveaway for all of the participants. Janome provided machines for the top three winners. The first place winner was Sophorn A. from Washington. Her prize was a Janome 4120QDC sewing machine and she picked it up at Parkland Parish Quilt Company, a sub-dealer of South Sound Sewing and Vacuum in Tacoma, WA. In the picture is Sophorn with Julie from South Sound Sewing and Vacuum.

"I have very little knowledge about sewing. As a little girl I have been taught to hand stitch and patch holes in clothes. I remembered when I was about 10 years old, I asked my mother if I can give her sewing machine a go. It scared me at first because I thought the needle was moving too fast and somehow I would get my fingers caught in it. Ever since then, I haven't used a sewing machine.

Thanks to The Modern Girl's Guide to Sewing sweepstakes, I am no longer afraid. I have a love for homemade things, which at one point thought was impossible for me to do. Overall, I hope to learn as much as I can with my new 4120QDC machine." - Sophorn

Congratulations Sophorn!
