Bunny Lavender Sachets

Skill level: Beginner

Easter is one of my favorite holidays and I love the idea of handmade Easter basket stuffers.  This year, I created a template to make these adorable bunny-themed lavender sachets that come together quickly and are scrap friendly.  Here is everything you will need to make some for the littles in your life.

Supplies:

  • (2) pieces of fabric measuring 5’’ x 7”.  I like to use coordinating prints. **
  • (2) pieces of lightweight woven fusible interfacing measuring 5” x 7”
  • Template (available here)
  • Dried lavender
  • Pinking blade or pinking scissors
  • Thread
  • Iron
  • Washable glue for basting (optional, but recommended)

**Fabrics used: Floral is Sweet & Charming from the Tangerine collection by Art Gallery Fabrics and the Tiny Stripe Pearl from the Slow Summer collection by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics.

Instructions:

  • Begin by ironing the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of each fabric piece.
  • Layer the pieces of fabric wrong sides together and center the template on top.
  • Using a pinking rotary blade or pinking scissors, cut around the template. Use a small pair of regular scissors to cut any areas that catch (like between the ears).
  • Using washable glue, baste the two pieces together.  This will help keep the layers from shifting too much when you sew.
  • Before you start sewing, be sure to leave a 2” opening at the bottom so you can fill it.  Then sew around the rest using a ¼” seam allowance, backstitching at the end and the beginning.
  • Fill the bunny shape with the dried lavender.  I used about 3-4 tablespoons in each.  Use a pencil or chopstick to be sure the lavender gets into the ears. Do not overfill.
  • Use your fingers to work the lavender down away from where you will need to sew.
  • Sew up the opening, backstitching at the end and beginning.

That’s all there is to it!  Feel free to personalize them by adding some button eyes or embroidery.  Just be sure to add those details prior to step 4.

I hope you enjoy this little project and it brings joy to your spring celebrations.
