Four Random Blocks, Stack and Cut Four Times

Welcome to our latest sewing adventure with JANOME America! In this tutorial, we’re diving into a fun and playful project that is perfect for quilters of all skill levels. You’ll learn how to create a charming mini quilt top measuring 18” on each side, all in just one hour!

All you need to get started are four different colored fabric squares, each measuring 11”. The magic happens when you stack, cut, and sew these squares randomly, resulting in a unique and vibrant quilt top that showcases your creativity!

SUPPLY LIST

  • Sewing machine, I’m using my JANOME Memory Craft 6700p
  • 1/4” inch foot for sewing
  • Quilting ruler
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Iron & ironing board
    • I used 4 different colors, each piece of fabric was an 11” square
  • Fabric for backing and binding, batting
  • Threads for piecing and quilting

Stack your 4 squares and cut them in half, mix them and start sewing each pair to create again 4 squares, press seams open

Stack again your 4 squares and cut them in half again, making a cut that is perpendicular to the seam. Mix them again and sew them in pairs to get again 4 squares,

then in pairs to get again 4 squares, press seams open.

Stack the 4 squares again and now cut in diagonal, mix and match and sew again, press seams open.

Last cut! Stack the 4 squares again, and now cut in the other diagonal. Mix and match, sew again, and press seams open.

Trim your blocks to 9 1/4”.

Sew your 4 blocks together and Voila!!! As you can see, I’m not trying to match my seams, it is a very enjoyable process, very Improv, where the beauty comes from colors, shapes, and rhythm.
