Welcome to a new year! We’ve all been so busy with the holidays. You’re probably exhausted and don’t want to spend any more money for a bit, so here’s a simple project to make with just your scraps from all those holiday projects.
SUPPLIES
- (2) 10” Cotton Fabric Squares
- (2) 10” Cotton Batting Squares
- Sewing Machine – I’m on my Janome Memory Craft 9410QC
- Thread
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut 3¼” squares out of all four corners of the fabric and batting. Makes a X shape.
- Place one fabric X (right side up) on top of one batting X.
- Fold over in half with right sides together. Sew a ⅜” seam on the left and right sides.
4. Separate your work and fold the opposite direction so the unsewn sides are now at the left and right (the seams are in the center). Sew ⅜” seam on both sides again. You now have a squared cup.
Turn one cup right side out. Place inside the other cup, which is still on the wrong side. Nest steams and clip around the top.
- Starting right before a seam, sew ⅜” around on three sides making sure to back stitch on stay stitch the beginning and end.
- Turn your work right side out through the opening left in the top.
- Push one cup into the other and clip around the top. Make sure your seams are going opposite directions to reduce bulk. I tucked my finger in through the opening.
9. Top stitch around the top of your work ensuring your closing up the opening left for turning.
Your ice cream pint holder is now complete! Grab your favorite pint and enjoy. As an added benefit, you can also use these with Cup o’ Noodles and microwave oatmeal cups. Do not microwave with your holder on.
Once you get the hang of these, you’ll be making them on repeat and super quick! They make excellent craft show items and gifts, like for your fave gal pals for Galentine’s Day.
What about the leftover 3¼” squares? There are sew many options! If you go a little crazy like I did, you can make a very cool scrappy patchwork quilt, bag or tote (depending on how many squares you have). I also have another totally different project that’s going to use those batting squares also, so be sure to stay tuned in my newsletter.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I’d love to see your versions. Please share your creations with me on Instagram, Facebook or by email!
Stitch on me hearties, 💕
