Janome Supplies Required

  • Janome embroidery machine. We are using the Memory Craft 550E
  • Medium weight cut away stabilizer
  • Gold polyester embroidery thread for basting (Don’t use metallic thread for basting. After all, it is metal. If layers become too concentrated, the stitches can rub against each other and break. In addition, most metallics are not cheap so don’t waste it on parts you won’t see).
  • Gold metallic thread
  • Pre-wound bobbin
  • Red-tip needle
  • RE 28 B Embroidery Hoop
  • T-shirt of choice
  • Green felt square
  • Fine tipped duck bill scissors
  • Snips
  • (Optional) Fusible woven mesh interfacing (Iron onto the inside of your T-shirt to prevent the metallic thread from irritating your skin).

Instructions

  1. Import design from USB.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klccp7UG87A
  2. Have your machine threaded with gold polyester thread to start.
  3. Hoop Stabilizer.
  4. Fold T-shirt in half and press. Fold up to center and press approximately 6in down from the neck band. Use this as a reference when aligning the T-shirt in your hoop. You can also use a fabric marker to make it easier to see.
  5. Align the T-shirt in the hoop and use magnets to hold in place.
  6. Put hoop on machine.
  7. Trace and baste your fabric to the stabilizer.
  8. Press start.
  9. Lay felt square on top of basting stitch, then trace and baste again.
  10. Press start.
  11. Remove hoop and carefully trim around the clover.
  12. Insert a red-tip needle (Specifically for metallic threads).
  13. Re-thread your machine with gold metallic thread. Be sure to wrap your thread around the anti-kink device, which provides extra stabilization and support against thread breakage.
  14. Reduce upper tension to -4. Metallic threads have no stretch. Lowering the tension allows for a consistent stitch without it pulling the bobbin thread to the top.
  15. Lower the stitch out speed of the embroidery as well.
  16. Press start.
  17. Press the inside of the finished embroidery with the fusible mesh.
