What do you get for the mother-in-law who has everything? It can be hard to find gifts especially if you want to give things that are “usable” like I do. This Easter I am being practical and thoughtful at the same time. I’ve decided to give out Hand Towels. Not just ANY hand towels… I wanted to make them special like the kind you see on ETSY so I’ve come up with a plan I think you will love.
Instructions
I started out with Easter Themed hand towels but this can work for any holiday or print. I got mine at the dollar store… don’t tell ;). I picked out some coordinating ribbon from my stash. (This is turning out to be very economical as well.) I will be sewing on my Janome Memory Craft 9450.
Next you will need a ruffling foot. Here is what mine looks like but make sure you get the right one for your machine. These are a life saver and make doing ribbon ruffles a breeze. Check out Janome’s Ruffle Tutorial on Instagram!
You will attach your ruffling foot and gather a ruffle slightly wider than your towel. Be sure to give yourself extra room to fold under the edges.
Line up your first row of ruffle and sew it down using your stitching ruffle line as a guide. Next, I chose a straight accent ribbon but if you like the ruffle and want another layer I say GO FOR IT!! I lined up my accent ribbon layer right on top of my stitching line. Switch your presser foot back to your regular sewing foot and stitch down your second layer ribbon.
Don’t forget to finish off your edges by folding them under neatly. You want your project to hold up in the wash.
And there you have it!! The best Easter gift that is inexpensive yet full of hard work and love! These come together so quickly you will want to make a set for yourself. Happy Sewing!
