Any of the following techniques may be sewn on any Janome sewing machine with the Fringe foot, providing it has a Scallop stitch and a Triple Stretch stitch. The settings given in the instructions are for the Memory Craft 11000.
Supplies Required:
- Fringe foot
- A foot
- F foot
- Janome Embroidery Thread in color of choice.
- Bobbin thread
- All purpose sewing thread
Before sewing with the Fringe foot, make sure you have a full bobbin and top thread spool.
Fagoting
- Match the threads to your garment or home decorating project for a traditional look, or use contrasting threads to create a designer or decorator look.
- Thread machine and wind bobbin with matching embroidery threads.
- Finish seam edges of two pieces of fabric, either by turning under and pressing, or straight stitching in place. Always spray starch before pressing to give a nice crisp finish to your edges.
- Select Zig-zag stitch, (#8 on the Memory Craft 11000) set width at 3.0 and length at 1.0. Tension is set at 2.2 and speed is at medium. Attach the fringe foot.
- Lay the two pieces of fabric under the foot a little less than 1/8" apart. (If you are sewing with the Memory Craft 11000, at this point, attach the Cloth Guide and move it to the left to -1/16). You can then lay your fabric on either side to give you consistent spacing as you feed your fabric. Sew your seam.
- Remove Fringe foot and attach the A, or Straight stitch foot
- Select Triple Stretch stitch, (#5 on the Memory Craft 11000). Leave settings and tension at standard and slowly sew down the center of the fagoting, gently pulling the edges apart as you sew.
This is a very nice finished look. However, if you with to be even more decorative sew a scallop down each edge to be fagoted before you "fringe" the edges.
Create Scallops
- Place matching colors Embroidery thread on the needle and bobbin.
- Attach the F foot.
- Turn under, spray starch and press the edges to be joined.
- Select decorative scallop stitch, (S#23 on the Memory Craft 11000). Set width at 7.0 and length at 0.3. (These settings are for "fine" fabrics). Sew a test on your fabric before sewing, and change settings if needed.
- Sew, with the edge of the fabric on the point of the F foot, allowing the right swing of the needle to fall off the fabric creating a scallop.
- Fagot edges with the Fringe foot, zig-zag width at 5.0 and length at 1.0. Tension should be at 2.2.
- Finish seam with the Triple Stretch stitch running down the center of the stitches.
