Embroidery 500E
Thursday, November 12, 2015

I just purchased this machine, and am generally pleased. One thing I need (since I do a lot of quilting designs by embroidery machine) is a Cloth Setter. I can't seem to hoop the quilt sandwich easily. I also need a vertical spool holder for embroidery designs and quilting with metallic threads. Please consider manufacturing these accessories. Thanks!

I've had my 500E for over a year and overall I'd say it is a good little machine. I have two questions that I'd appreciate answered. First, why when an embroidery design is saved in the JEF format must I also go through the Embroidery Editor so the machine can access it? Also, is there any chance for an update to a larger embroidery hoop? Thank you.

You gotta get this machine !!! mc500 E

Wow, I can only say wow, and wow again. I sew a lot, but not with an embroidery machine. This is truly a wonderful and friendly machine. I named mine Doozy, because she is that. so easy to use, and simple. But, it really helps to just watch the video, it only lasts a couple of minutes, and sit and read the book. Saves you a whole lot of time. I also got the MBX V5 software. It has been a love hate relationship. But, any new software is. It has now become much easier. It has so much, I still don't know what all I can do. But I am doing a whole lot. The best thing you can do for yourself in regard to the software, is download and print out the pdf manuel. It helps so very much. I go thru the different sections, and always find new things I didn't know I had. But this machine is the best. Not cheap, and I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I have never been sorry I bought this machine. It truly does beautiful work, and so very little is ruined because of a thread break, or bobbin issue, of which there are not many.. You can just go back to where the thread broke, and go from there. No more waste. whooo hoooo. So easy to use and learn. Buy it, I don't think you will be sorry you did. I was up and sewing within 2 hours of brining it home, and that's because I read the book first. I'm a nerd, cant help it.

This is my third embroidery machine, each one giving a larger hoop size. It is awesome to use. Has great features. It is easy to use even if you are a beginner and after owning this for almost a year I am still learning new ways to use it. Each pattern comes out like it should. The thing I don't like or haven't found out how to do yet is turn the hoop when the pattern is sideways and it does not fit. For that you have to enter the design into software or have the maker turn it for you. An inconvenience. That is the only complaint. I would recommend this machine to anyone.

pros/cons of 500E
Monday, January 8, 2018

I've had my 500E for several months now and really love it. I love the quality of the stitching and how easy it is to attach the hoop. There's a few things that I don't like about the 500E and that is having to oil it monthly. The first time I did it my husband had to help me because I am not very mechanical. It's not an easy thing to do. I broke my USB stick because I forgot to remove it. That's my fault. The other thing that I had trouble with was the bobbin threader. It never worked from the start. My solution was to buy pre-wound bobbins. Also I have another Janome sewing machine that I used in case I wanted to use the same color thread in the bobbin. Another thing that didn't work for me was the needle threader. That's okay too because I can thread the needle manually. The last thing is having to transport the machine. It can be tricky with the arm not being able to be removed. I ordered the trolly so I can transport the machine when I need to take it to the dealer.

I LOVE this machine. I looked at a lot of different machines before getting this one. I have had it a little over a year and have done everything from making onsies to quilting a small blanket. If you are looking for an embroidery only machine this is a great choice.

I purchased the 500e about 9 months ago. This machine is amazing. It has tackled everything and that I threw at it. There was an issue with the motherboard about 4 months after I got my machine but it was replaced and running wonderfully. I have seriously thought about getting a second 500e but have decided to go for one of the multi needle embroidery machines. Thank you Janome for making such wonderful machines I am a loyal Janome embroider and quilter

Thursday, July 26, 2018

I have had my MC500E for a little over a year. I love it. It was very easy to learn, compared to my first embroidery machine. The stitch quality is very good. Ease of using and connecting the hoops to the machine is very good. The embroidery field size is good, but I still wish that it would embroider a larger area. I am very happy with this machine.

I have owned my Janome 500e for over a year now. And I love it. It is easy to use and I like the hoop sizes, I wish they would update it though for the magnetic hoops. But I still use it almost everyday.

Thursday, July 26, 2018

I struggled with an embroidery machine of a different brand for a number of years. The 500 MC is not only easier to use, but much more reliable. My main complaint is that I would like a bigger hoop and/or...........I have purchased a few patterns that ONLY come in a 12" size...thinking I could slightly resize them and use them with the 280/280 hoop. The 500 will not even open the patterns so I could minimize them. C'mon, Janome! Design a bigger hoop, or change the software!

Fantastic machine!! My first embroidery machine was the combo, Janome MC 5700. It was over 20 years old and I was still trying to embroider with it. When I was introduced to the 500e, I fell in love. Ten months later, I still love my girl. It's a great machine. Love the big hoop. The needle threader isn't a problem after I learned the trick. LOL The ONLY thing I don't like is the bobbin winder. What a mess. Not once, but twice. You've got to be very careful winding. Looking to buy a new Janome for strictly sewing very soon. Love my Janome's.

Thursday, July 26, 2018

When I first purchased my 500E, I was very dissatisfied with the machine. Sent it back to the manufacturer for taking a look at the different issues I was having. I now love my machine. I have thoroughly learned and am comfortable embroidering on the 500E. The only downfall is that I would like a larger size hoop, as a lot of projects I have wanted to do use a larger hoop than the largest one that comes with the machine. I would recommend this machine to anyone and take the time to read the instruction book and have patience with learning all the different techniques. Love it!!!

I am very happy with my Janome 500. I now have the best embroidery machine available. I use it for many things stand alone embroidery to quilting with patterns on memory sticks. It is far more versatile than I ever imagined, I am still looking for the little purse pattern we made in class with monogram. My granddaughter was so thrilled with it. Thank you Janome America for your dedication to superior products,

Had the 500E for several months now, and no issues whatsoever. Love the fact we can service this machine ourselves with details in the owner's manual. Virtually every other machine out there must be taken to the dealer for routine service/oiling.

Review of 500e
Thursday, July 26, 2018

Things I love - a reasonably priced embroidery only machine with decent sized hoops. Easy to use, included software is easy to use, quiet. And most importantly, the machine creates beautiful stitches. Things that could be better - the needle threader never works for me, but I can thread manually much faster. Hoop envy - most of us always dream of a bigger hoop. BTW, my dealer told me I didn't need to oil the entire machine as the manual showed - just do the more easily accessible parts that have felt. And bring the machine in for servicing as needed. My husband and I followed the entire procedure once and it was hard - especially doing the bottom part when the arm was in the way and vulnerable to damage. I wish Janome provided more support and videos for their machines. For a while Amanda Whitlock was with the company and she had hopes for doing more. Unfortunately, I don't think anything came of it - at least I never found more training and ideas from her.

I have had my 500e for over 2 years and am so pleased with the quality of the stitching. Every design has sewn out beautifully. I also have the 300e and am still using it but I really love having the thread cutter on 500e. I would love to see a smaller hoop, but not as small as the 10 b. A true 4x4 would be perfect to round out the hoops. Thank you for such quality products. I am a happy embroiderer!

A Pleasure to Use...
Thursday, July 26, 2018

I use my Janome 500E nearly every day for the 8 months that I have owned it. The machine is smart, amazing and pretty much flawless. I am not. So if something is not right, it is due to human error. The included Owners Manual is well written. It shows maintenance I can do myself like oiling. I have not needed any support to keep the machine running well. The only two improvements that would be helpful is larger hoops and a slightly larger screen to see small fonts and designs. Overall I feel the Janome 500E is the best machine available for the money.

BEST MACHINE EVER!!!
Thursday, July 26, 2018

In late 2013 I started with the MC200e to see if I would enjoy machine embroidery. I was hooked! A few months later I bought the MC350e. When I saw the sneak peeks of the 500e I knew I had to have it! I actually bought two of them so my BFF could have fun embroidering without the frustration her little Brother machine gave her. OMG, the things this machine can do! Who else has 7 standard hoop sizes? I love, love, love the on board editing capabilities, I can do anything right in the machine that the expensive softwares can do. I love playing around with letters and border shapes, arcing them and just playing around. I just can't say enough great things about the built in editing. I also REALLY LOVE that I can service this machine myself. It was one of the big selling points for me. It's so easy to do, really anyone can do it. The manual explains it very well. The manual is better written than many I've seen, and explains things so that anyone who embroiders can understand it. Grab a cuppa something and sit down with it. The first thing I do with any new machine is read the manual from cover to cover then go back and read it again. I downloaded the manual before I even bought the machine so I had a head start. The 500e can do so much that I keep the manual handy when I'm using it. The number of built in designs(and all the different types of designs) is great too. I've done some gorgeous projects from the built in designs. I've never had an issue with any type of thread, I think Janome machines are the least thread picky of any machines I own, though I usually use a separate thread stand instead of the built in one. I've embroidered everything from lace to quilt blocks to towels to heavy vinyl and light leather with no issues what so ever. The 500e does it all and does it beautifully. In short, this is a fantastic machine and I would buy it again in a heart beat. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

I love my Janome 500E. It embroiders so beautifully. I never have any problems with the tension or needles breaking like I have with other brands. The embroidery hoops are large so I can make the items I had been wanting to do. This is a five star machine!

Thursday, July 26, 2018

I have had the machine for almost a year now and I love it. I am taking it with me when I die. I also do some large scale quilting designs on it. I just mark the center mark with a water soluble mark and then jog the needle to that mark. I too thought I would need a cloth setter, but with the ability to jog the needle to the center I have found I do not need the cloth setter.

I have had my machine about a year and love all that I am learning to do. I love the different size hoops and the look of the finished project. Thursday, July 26, 2018

I absolutely love my machine. It is so easy to use. I have had it about 18 months. I love the fact that the hoop attachment is so easy to use and reach. I have had issues with making quilts on the 11000 having to reach back to attach and remove the hoop that put me in therapy for my shoulder. Just finished my Hoopsisters 2018 Mystery Quilt. No shoulder problems. This machine is a workhorse.

Went out to buy a sewing machine and saw the MemoryCraft 500E. That ended a new sewing machine. I was hooked. Friday, July 27, 2018

I’ve had my 500E for little over a year. It is an upgrade from a 300. The selling point for me was the larger hoops. It sews out great. I absolutely love how it clips both the top and bottom threads. No more spider webs on the back of a project. The machine is tricky to carry but my husband does a great job. The needle threader was a minor problem. When it even failed to work for my dealer, he installed a new one that works great. All in all, I recommend this machine as great quality at a reasonable price.

Best machine so far
Friday, July 27, 2018

First I had a 300E embroidery machine. I loved it. But then my local dealer had a class to try out the 500E embroidery machine. I went and found out there is so much more to the 500E than the 300E. I purchased it that day. Traded in the 300E machine. The best move I could have made. I absolutely LOVE this machine. I have done so much from gifts, personal, baby, adults. Most of my designs I buy from an Embroidery Library site, couldn't be any easier. I download the designs to a memory stick, insert the stick in the 500E and away I go. I have another Janome machine that I use for sewing and the 500E for embroidery. Love the Janome brand, have never had an issue with either machine. Would recommend the 500E to anyone who is interested in embroidery.

I have so much fun learning my new 500E. I have 2 other Janome machines and love using all 3 making lots of fun projects for my home and also gifts for my friends. The 500e has been a whole new sewing experience for me and I have learned so much. If I could ask one thing of Janome it would be to direct me to more learning materials besides the manual because I am sure the machine can do so much more than I am using it for. I worked my way through 3 or 4 combos until they got too heavy for me. The best thing I ever did was go for the 500e and a Skyline 7. Now I can sew while embroidering. The results are always great. My only con is the oiling of the machine. It takes forever and involves moving the machine a lot. Do any of the dealers offer a deal to just oil the machine? Within reason. Thanks for a great machine!

Janome 500E

I have been sewing with Janome for many years starting with the mc8000. Cannot beat their quality. I just upgraded from the 300e (kept the 300 though). I am totally impressed with this new machine. I just purchased the acu-quilt program and am looking forward to learning all I can do with it. Love the extension table for larger size embroideries and of course the larger hoops. If you have been using Janome embroidery machines this new one is very intuitive even for a grandma nearing her 80th. Love this machine.

I love my 500e. I've had it a year or so and it keeps getting better. The larger hoops are great, and having a color display makes choosing the design and colors so much easier. Everything stitches out so nicely.

Have really enjoyed this machine. We were fortunate to be able to purchase one for school for the coming year! Can't wait to see what the kids are able to do with it! My only personal issue is downloading patterns from on-line and getting them save into the correct place so the machine will read them.

I upgraded from my first embroidery/sewing Brother machine to the Janome MC 500E. I have really enjoyed it. A couple areas and the screws you have to deal with to oil it are a bit tricky, but doable. I really enjoy the larger embroidery field to work with. I would recommend this machine to any embroidery enthusiast!

I have never done any embroidery and I simply love this machine. So much fun watching it work for me! Easy setup and easy to design gifts too. I am making my own labels for quilts and they are so much fun and add some charm to the quilts.

I stayed with Janome!

I purchased my MC350E in 2008 and have been very pleased with it. When I decided to upgrade to a machine that has a larger hoop I stuck with Janome. I've had my MC500E for several years now and am very pleased with it. Love the needle threader which is different than the one on the MC350E. I really like that the arm is towards the inside of the machine. It gives me just a bit more room than some other brands. One other thing that has made me a Janome fan is that in all these years with the MC350E and the MC500E (and my Janome Magnolia sewing machine) I haven't needed any servicing other than blowing out the machines and oiling. I have never had to take my machines in for repairs. I love Janome embroidery and sewing machines.

I really, really love my machine. Am new to embroidery and it has been easy to use and learn. Still have so much more to learn and looking forward to doing a a lot of quilting on the machine. Have purchased the acu-quilt program. Just need to find the time to learn how it all works!!!

Love it, but needs to rotate designs too large
Tuesday, July 31, 2018

I love my machine. It is a joy to work with. Mesmerizing watching it embroider. However, I buy a lot of designs online and many times I have to ask the designer to rotate the files for me so they'll fit the hoop. I've never had to do that with my other machines. PLEASE fix this problem. It's embarrassing when the designer says "yeah, we have that problem with JEF files."

Best so far!
Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Since 2001 I've owned five different embroidery machines (all Janome, naturally) with the 500E being the current machine and it is 'the' best so far. I love the larger hoops and this was the main reason for upgrading. I don't bother digitising my own designs, although have done a few times, but I would prefer to spend my time sewing and/or embroidering designs I've downloaded from the internet. I like to add embroidery to clothing I make and mostly it's quite unobstrusive but that depends on the garment and it's intended use. Sometimes it might be my own logo, which is quite simple but something I like to include for a truly personal touch. I think the maintenance instructions in the manual are a huge bonus and saves a trip to a repair shop for something so simple that we (as owners) can do ourselves. I maintain my other machines and have done for many years, it's not really rocket science and if done on a regular basis, then problems are avoided. My preference is for separate sewing and embroidery machines, rather than a combo...been there and would much prefer to continue sewing while the emb machine is doing her thing, so in future models I would like to see more of the TOL machine emb features brought across to the standalone emb machines. Can't really comment on the included trial copy of the software as due to ongoing PC problems, my trials were exceeded and I was unable to use the software and a request for a workaround were ignored. The 500E produces perfect stitching and I have no complaints in this regard and won't hesitate to upgrade to whatever the next standalone model may be in a few years time.

This is a very high quality embroidery only machine for a reasonable price. I have a Bernina 700 and a Janome MC 11000SE. The 500E is simple to use -- more so than the Bernina 700 -- so the 500E is my go-to machine to do a quick project. Love my 11000SE too!

I was given my machine for Christmas almost 1-1/2 yrs ago. It is a workhorse of a a machine, but I wish the screen was larger to read. And wireless option could be added.

WOW - just WOW. I have so loved this machine. The part I love the BEST, the ease of down loading designs. It makes it so much fun to find and design so many special things for my self, my family and friends and for paying customers. Thank you for the amazing ease.

great machine, but has many glitches that I have not had with other machines. Satin Stitch can not o very wide and says thread break a lot when going from one part of embroidery to another, very annoying!
