In this article, Janome Freelance Educator Kelley McKenzie will teach you how to attach borders to quilts without having the ripple effect or as Kelley likes to call it, ocean waves. When Kelley was taught how to attach borders, it was the traditional, old-school way and she did not like it. So she did not re-invent the wheel, but found an easier way.

"I absolutely love using my Janome Horizon Memory Craft 15000! As a quilt designer, I realize most of the time I only use a small percentage of the many fabulous features on my machine for piecing and quilting. Of course, my MC15000 makes the stitches I use daily perfect, but there are so many amazing decorative stitches on this machine and I have been very eager to stitch them out to see how they look on fabric. So rather than create a typical "stitch library" by stitching out the various stitches on sample cloth to keep in a binder, I decided to incorporate a nifty stitch technique I learned from Pat Holly - an award winning quilter and personal friend. Pat uses the utility and decorative stitches on her machine to create new fabric." – Janome Artisan Kimberly Einmo

This is an adorable project to make for the home or a first apartment. Kimberly used Paris-themed patterns from her collection and beautiful pink and mint-green fabric for the background. Now you can make this colorful and cultural project by following Kimberly’s instructions.

    Sewing for the Local Community

Using a variety of Janome sewing machines, students at Florida State University-Panama City's sewing club powered through the stitching of 60 pillowcases for local foster children. "Janome machines are perfect for beginner sewists," Janome Artisan Milinda Stephenson, club sponsor and Professor of English at FSU-PC said. "Students can be hard on machines, but even with rough treatments, these machines have yet to have any stitching, tension or other annoying problems common to cheaper machines."

The students are currently working on stitching together 60 bags that they plan to fill with a pillowcase, stuffed animal, toothbrush, toothpaste and a hairbrush for the children. "I'm amazed at the dedication of these students. They work hard and love not only learning how to sew, but teaching each other. The sewing club has become an event students look forward to."

Janome is so proud of Milinda and these students for all of the hard work they have been dedicating to help the local community.
