The Perfect Accessory for Your Four-Legged BFF

Janome blogger Caroline Hulse of Sew Caroline created an adorable bandana for a dog using her 4120QDC sewing machine and fabric from her newest collection with Art Gallery, Happy Home Fabrics. The bandana that Caroline made comes in three sizes and is "paw-fect" for your loveable fur baby!

Using a Janome sewing machine, thread, snaps and fabric, you too can create a cute bandana for your dog using Caroline's helpful and clear instructions. Everyone will want to pet your dog when you take him or her out for a walk while they are wearing their bandana.

Caroline recently held an event at a local dog boutique where she helped customers make easy accessories for their pups. Everyone at the event loved them!

By Anita Grossman Solomon of Make It Simpler

Hi, I'm Elna Boutique Designer Anita Grossman Solomon. I'm known for coming up with innovative ways to construct quilt blocks. I'm pleased to present my newest method, the Make It Simpler® Monkey Wrench Block.

It will be faster for you to sew one of these blocks than for me to explain its shortcuts as, seeing is believing. Just secure the pattern on the fabric, shorten the stitch length and sew through the lines. The units are cut after they've been sewn. There's no need to measure them before or after sewing.

I construct this block faster than most sewers, not because I am super speedy, but because of my sewing machine. I simultaneously cut both the top and bobbin threads with the needle in the 'down' position. My trick? The eXcellence 760 thread cutter. In fact, I can cut both threads without lifting my finger by using the optional remote thread cutter beside the foot pedal. To me, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

You'll need one copy of the Directions plus one Pattern print-out per block. Please share your work on Instagram with the hashtag #AnitasMonkeyWrench. For tips, techniques and updates, please visit this page

It is the perfect accessory to fit fresh produce and a loaf of bread that is fresh out of the oven.

    By Janome Artisan Milinda Stephenson

At Jim's Vacuum and Sewing in Lynn Haven, FL, Janome Educator LuAnn Hartley demonstrated a tried and true hooping method to make sure that the fabric being used was centered correctly in the hoop. After preparing the fabric by cutting it to the necessary size, LuAnn shared these great tips:

    1. Secure fabric to stabilizer by using a spray adhesive such as 505 spray. *Note: Be certain to keep hoop and cutting board away from spray.
    2. Center the inner hoop on top of the fabric.
    3. Transfer the inner hoop to the outer hoop by lifting the fabric beneath the inner hoop, keeping the inner hoop stable and centered on top of the fabric.
    4. Check the thumbscrew of the outer hoop to be certain that it is loose enough to accommodate fabric thickness.
    5. Working from the top of the hoop to the bottom, press the centered inner hoop and fabric into the outter hoop.
