Great Janome Skyline S9
Sunday, April 23, 2017

This is the most remarkable machine. It has features that only the more expensive machines have. It sews and embroiders beyond my expectations. I want to sew everyday because it is so much fun to learn and enjoy. It came with an all leather travel bag, embroidery thread kit, and loads of materials to embroider.

I have owned this machine for less than 2 weeks and have not been able to use it because I cannot get it to work with WIFi or with USB. I am unable to load embroidery designs. For some reason there seems to be a problem with the machine reading a design. It does not see the USB. Very irritating.

This machine sews and embroiders very well. One thing I am disappointed in is the automatic needle threader. It has never worked. It's not that big of deal because I can still thread the needle by hand but I might need it some day. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

I have had a New Home/Janome for 20+ years. The SAME model - it was time for a new one. This one is the BOMB! I hope to somehow know all of it's ins and outs! If you get a chance, BUY THIS MODEL!!!! It won't disappoint

I love my Skyline S9. this my 3rd embroidery machine. I have 110000 special and had MC9700 until we had a power surge and that is when I got the Skyline S9. Must say it surprises me every time how neat and patterns turn out great ....Easy to operate and understand .

I have had my S9 for one year and learn something new every time I use it. It stitches like a dream; embroidery is easy and beautiful, and will handle my quilting needs adequately. My one con: I am not impressed with the auto needle threader. It is easier to thread by hand.

Loving it

I mastered the embroidery the first night. Getting comfortable with the sewing was harder because I’m still in love with my 6600. But now after 6 months I’m in love with both my machines. I have so many projects in progress and more on my to do list. So glad I took the plunge and bought this machine.

Terrific machine
Wednesday, January 31, 2018

This is probably my favorite machine of all the ones I’ve worked with. Tons of modern features and lots and lots of stitches. I was a little wary of the auto tension and pressure but they’ve worked beautifully. And I can’t say enough good things about the embroidery unit. It’s easy to use and produces lovely work. Plus it’s great that the unit is removable. Also, sonnecting the machine to my WiFi network was easier than some computers have been. My only complaint is that there’s no multi position hoop that works with this machine, at least to my knowledge. That would be a great addition to the Skyline!

Janome S9

I love love love my Janome S9 - yes it's true! Flashback- I learned to sew in 4th grade in Bluebirds, next touched a sewing machine as a junior in high school to sew a simple pair of pants. Flash forward 30 years later married two teenage boys - I leaped after many hours of reasearch and some great guidance from Montevilla Sewing Center in Portland OR to the Janome S9 from a O-T-C (over the counter ) sewing machine for simple repairs on shorts pants, and shirts. Did I say I love the Janome S9.. I have sewn three quilt projects in the year I have owned it - I enjoy sewing and quilting so much. And it is perfect for my short attention span and creative nature-I can play with embroidery or sew practical things for Boys Scouts.

Love my Skyline S9

Wasn't sure what I really wanted to do project-wise as I retired. This machine has allowed me to explore quilting and embroidery without a huge financial investment. I'm already addicted to quilting. It's so rewarding to be able to sew without snarled bobbins or uneven stitches. This is the best machine I have ever used. My old machines were a Bernina and a Viking. I had thought they were pretty good, but they don't hold a candle to this one!

Super Fantastic S9
Friday, February 2, 2018

It is easy to write a review and give five stars to my S9. I had a 10001 for many years and when I traded it in thought I might be making a mistake - my mistake! The S9 is an absolute dream machine, easy to learn, easy to manuever and easy to fall in love with! I am a quilter and had been dabbling in embroidering. With the S9 I quickly have become an embroidery lover. I am trying all sorts of new things with great joy, and each new project makes me want to do more. This machine is well worth the money, is well made and I woud purchase it again in a second.

It was difficult to let go of my 10001 but it was time. I am adapting my knowledge to the S9 and find many features I am getting happily used to. Glad I was able to afford this with all I wanted to do still in my retirement years.

Skyline S9
Saturday, February 3, 2018

The first time I saw the S9 in action I fell in love with it. I have a 7700 and a 3160 that are both wonderful machines but there were so many features on the S9 that I felt I just had to have. The presser foot going up and down automatically makes chain piecing so easy. The lock feature makes it safe and convenient to clean and maintain. I had never considered an embroidery function for a machine until I saw how easy it is to use the feature on the S9. The Skyline S9 is the best machine I could have as a multi-function machineI wouldn't give it up for anything!

I love this machine. I’m still learning the embroidery features, but what I have been able to do is awesome. I would recommend this machine to everyone. I quilt quite a bit and she never fails me.

My New Best Friend!
Saturday, February 3, 2018

Have always loved the Janome brand and my Skyline 9 has exceeded my expectations! I am always discovering wonderful features that enhance my embroidery and quilting experience. Excellent machine at an affordable price. Only draw back is the needle threader. I was spoiled rotten by the automatic needle threader on my old 10001 so this hit or miss threader is a big disappointment. I have become very proficient at threading by hand! Don't let that slight draw back deter you from selecting this machine, you won't regret your choice.

I have a Janome 9000 I bought around 1995, and the Scan n Sew to go with it. I have enjoyed for many years. My husband thought it was time to get an upgrade so last Valentines he took me to get my Skyline S9. Wasn't real sure I wanted a new machine but am I so glad I got the S9. It has so many new uses my 9000 doesn't have. It is still taking me time to learn how to use them, but that is what is so much fun with having a new machine. I am getting more into quilting and hope to take on a larger project soon. I can't give up my 9000 though. That is just how I am, and I know that is how I will be about my S9. They both have there place in my sewing room and just won't give them up. I just enjoy them that much.

I am enjoying my machine. I still have so much to learn. I am having so much fun experimenting and learning new things and tricks. Especially the embroidery part. It is new to me but the machine is user friendly. Love it.

Great Machine
Sunday, February 4, 2018

My S9 is my fourth machine and is quickly eclipsing my desire to use any of the others. It it the most technologically advanced of all my machines. It performs consistently well whether my project is clothes, making various items for grandbaby, quilting or embroidering (which I've hardly delved into yet but look forward to doing more). I was a little trepidatious about spending so much on a machine but am so glad that I did.

Love the Skyline S9. Upgraded from a 1968 Singer, so there are so many new fautures for me to explore. Love the needle threader and how it cuts the threads at the end of a seam. Not leaving such long thread tales must have saved me 'a mile' of thread on my first project!

This is my first embroidery machine, but I have sewn for years. Janome machines are super user friendly, and this is no exception. Switching from embroidery to regular sewing is easy. Downloading designs onto the machine, or transferring them on a jump drive is easy to figure out. When you get stuck, the online tutorials are super useful. Sending designs that I have created on the computer to the machine is also easy, and pretty self explanatory. The one thing that I have not gotten used to, or understand, is how much bobbin thread wastes. It automatically stops when bobbin thread is at risk to run out, but there is always plenty left. I have to manually pull the rest off, but it is so much to waste. It could be the same as other embroidery machines, and I just do not have experience with them. It is not the same as a regular sewing machine, though, as a regular machine lets you use the bobbin up, so you do not waste. I have literally made a thousand things on this machine. I love it so much!

Enjoying my S9
Monday, February 5, 2018

I purchased my S9 before it was on the floor of the dealer. The price was good and the features - wow - more features than I will probably every use or take the time to learn! Two things would make it perfect for me: 1) a built-in walking foot and 2) an improved needle threader. (It works but usually have to give it a couple of attempts before it actually threads.). Would I recommend the machine? Yes!

Very Pleased
Monday, February 5, 2018

I was looking for a move up machine, one with some bells and whistles that I could improve my basic skills with. I am impressed with Accufeed fabric feed, the ease of removing the needle plate. I have finished 4 quilts start to finish with my Skyline S9 since purchasing 4 months ago. The embroidery is nice and actually easy to operate with the detailed instructions in the manual. I highly recommend the Skyline S9 if you're looking for a combo machine Rhett is smooth and easy to operate.

Skyline S9
Friday, February 9, 2018

I bought my machine in mid October, 2017. I had thoroughly researched combo sewing and embroidery machines and was delighted to find a mid-level priced machine that has every feature on my list and then some. I have not been disappointed by the functionality of my machine. I have been on a delightful adventure learning embroidery, including in the hoop projects. I have found the machine easy to use and am using the free apps that wirelessly hook up to the S9. The acufeed system worked wonderfully when I constructed a quilted travel bag. I highly recommend this machine if you are looking for higher end features but don't have the budget for one of the higher priced machines.

First Janome, First Time embroidery
Sunday, February 11, 2018

After returning a machine to Amazon that I was unhappy with, I began looking for a new machine. The Janome Skyline series seemed to be what I was looking for. A solid machine that would be good for costuming and many other projects. The first dealer I went to did not have knowledgeable staff or many machines available. I drove an hour to a terrific dealer who showed me the s5 through s9 and many other models. I could have chosen the s7, but for the promotional price point, how could I pass on trying embroidery? This machine is strong, reasonably quiet, and super easy to thread which is a bonus for me as my eyes are not great. The controls are not difficult to figure out. Honestly, if you can find your way around a smart phone or tablet, you can do this easily. About this machine I have no complaints. More regular updates to Acudesign would be great though!

Beware of Dealers......
Saturday, February 17, 2018

I purchase a Skyline 9, after doing plenty of research on sewing machine. I just wish I had did more research on the dealers. With my past experience with Janome, I was comfortable in buying a more expensive machine. So excited about finally getting a Janome to sew my heart out, I founded that the bobbin sensor was not working, called my dealer. Drive out over an hour just for him to tell me my computer board is burned out. He needed to send out the machine back to Janome.. Returned to the dealer after a month.... sensor still not working before I left the dealer. Third time my computer board is burned out. So, he called and say he was going to switch out my machine or a brand new one- but it was his showroom machine- dirty on the inside. Finally, contact the Credit Card company file a complaint and I received my money back. I was not going to paid for a dirty used machine at $3000.00. So now, I am burned on Janome. Still like my little Janome 4120QDC. I don't know if it was Janome giving me the run around or my dealer... like they said you are purchasing a dealer.

Best buy in my life
Saturday, February 17, 2018

This machine is my best friend. I have only done normal sewing, but love the features, cutting the thread, dealing only with buttons, controlling speed on the start bottom, and there’s a lot more. I use the cloth guide often and love it. I never thought I could afford something like this, but after searching, it was possible.

Phenomenal Sewing/Embroidery Machine
Wednesday, April 10, 2019

I've had my Skyline S9 for about a month. After comparing other makes and models I chose this one for price and features. I'm thoroughly satisfied. This machine lets you take sewing projects to the next level. Also because it does machine embroidery a new world of possibilities is open. Machine is quality built and reasonably priced. Large color touch screen is very nice. Abundant accessories included. User manual is easy to understand. Only issue is that automatic needle threader is finicky. With more guys like myself becoming more common in sewing/embroidery Janome might consider having more decorative stitches and embroidery designs with a masculine theme available.

I hate the buttonholer
Friday, July 12, 2019

I love many things about this machine, but not the buttonhole attachment!!! Every time I make button holes, I have to spend a few hours removing stitches where the ends didn't line up because it's just a mechanical mechanism that changes direction when the plastic arm bumps into the guide. It's very imprecise, so when the two ends meet up, they don't meet up. I'm afraid to make any more of them. I wish Janome would use the brains that Viking has, for a built in button hole stitch that just needs to know how long your button is.

No problem with auto needle threader if the last 2 steps stay threaded. I make sure needle is in up position, watch the thread to make sure it doesn’t “pop” out of place and then follow through with the last step.

Love My Skyline S9
Sunday, December 22, 2019

I have had my new Janome Skyline S9 for about six months now and it runs fantastic! I was really nervous about getting a new machine especially a brand I was not familiar with, but now I am so happy I chose this one! I am still exploring all the possibilities with this machine. It stitches beautifully, does excellent with stitching through multiple layers of fabric, easily switches between sewing and embroidery, and the embroidery is beautiful! The AcuDesign app used to organize embroidery files needs improvement,, but there are multiple ways to access your designs. I highly recommend this sewing machine for sewing and embroidery.

I just LOVE this machine. It is a machine that is truly a workhorse! We can be hemming jeans one minute, then embroidering a christening gown the next. I love every feature so I could never choose just one! The S9 leaves my imagination to soar! Thank you Janome!

Versatile Embroidery and Standard Machine
Wednesday, February 17, 2021

I had a Skyline S7 and upgraded to a S9. I had never sewn machine embroidery before owning this machine. It's really nice! I love that you can covert this machine to either standard sewing or embroidery sewing. I've learned this is a unique option as a lot of company's require you to pick either an embroidery machine or standard sewing machine. It's really fun and easy to use. I like the custom screen saver option that you can create for your machine display. I think this is the only embroidery machine I'll need. I also love the knee lift bar included in the machine accessories. Highly recommend this machine!

Truly affordable sewing and embroidery model
Friday, February 19, 2021

The cost of adding a sewing/embroidery model to your sewing space can keep you from experiencing the JOY of having an all-in-one machine at your fingertips. In the S4H Studios, we have been so impressed with the Skyline S9 and all the features it has for both tasks. LOVE, love, love the Anna Maria Horner built-in designs -- and so many decorative stitches! It's always precise - always powerful.

I love the Skyline S9. This machine is easy to use, sews beautifully and helps me bring my visions to life. From the moment I began using the machine, I felt comfortable and it's exceeded my expectations for all that I can do. Excited to continue creating and learning more as I go.

Really Like it!
Wednesday, September 29, 2021

Clearly this machine has been out for a few years but hasn’t been reviewed recently. I just got mine and I really like it. I traded in a much higher machine of a different brand to get this because I love the smaller footprint and the fact that I can pick it up and carry it myself! It has so many of the features that my other high end machine had like the pivot function, combining stitches and thread cutter. However, on the Skyline 9 I have actually figured out how to use them! I love the 9mm stitching as you can stitch out the character stitches and they stay in a straight line and are large enough to recognize! The lettering is awesome. Lots of feet, and it does just about anything many top of the line machines do. Love it!

Terrific
Wednesday, January 17, 2024

I have had my Skyline 9 since about when they first came out. I have chronic health problems and didn't do as much sewing as I liked for several years, but now am back to sewing again. I really love this machine and have watched many YouTube videos related to the machine which has helped as I didn't have the oomph to go to classes. My favorite one was a video that showed me in detail how to use the threader! I sit to high up to see the tail end of the threading path clearly, so that helped. One of the things I have found to be fun is watching videos on using stitches no matter what brand of machine. The S9 shares many decorative stitches in common with other machines and so it is fun to see other ways to use stitches that we can use on our machine. I assume that this will be my final machine since I am now 68, unless someone wants to gift me with a better machine, but as I looked at the machine comparison chart, I found that the S9 has things such as a free arm that Janomes current top of the line machine doesn't have! I am very happy to havr this machine. I have come a long way since I got my Janome 8000 when they first came out.

Fabulous Janome Skyline S9
Monday, June 10, 2024

I've been embroidering with Janome for 25 years - the 10K. the 11K, the 15K - loved them all, but the S9 is my favorite! I now only use the 15K for really large designs; everything else is S9 work. AND it sews like a dream - totally outdoes my 4000, my 6700 (which I mourned for years after trading in), and the 8900. Janomes have always been workhorse machines, but the S9 outperforms them all - beautiful stitching, even embroidery, light enough to carry to classes. I love, love, LOVE it!
