Skyline S7
Thursday, April 28, 2016

I purchased my Skyline S7 last October and have been so pleased! I mostly use it to quilt, but have made a few other items. I feel like my projects are more precise and I have a better result. Nelsonville Quilt Company, where I purchased the machine from has been offering a class once a month to learn about all the different stitches, attachments and just how to easily navigate the machine. It has been such a plus! This is my second Janome. My first one still works just fine and it is probably close to 20 years old. Janome is a great and dependable sewing machine.

Best Sewing Experience Ever!
Wednesday, January 31, 2018

The Skyline S7 is my second Janome machine. My other is an MC15000. Even though my MC15000 does sewing & embroidery, having a separate machine works great when I have multiple projects going (which is most of the time) and I love that the feet are interchangeable and I didn't have to learn anything new because the threading and most operations are done the same way.

Love my Skyline S7
Wednesday, January 31, 2018

I bought my Skyline S7 about 9 months ago. I love it for quilting, so precise and a joy to work with. I have also used it for hemming, repairing clothes and general sewing. It is a workhorse. I actually used it to reinforce a leather belt! With the right needle and thread this machine can handle anything!

Return to Quilting!
Wednesday, January 31, 2018

While raising a family and working, I took a 25 year "vacation" from quilting. I pulled out my old sewing machine once I retired and realized that the old machine should be retired also! After lots of research, I selected the Janome Skyline S7. There are so many features and it is so easy to use! I've had my machine for almost a year and really love it! With all the speciality "feet" it makes sewing a breeze!

I am loving my machine - it is easy to use. I had a machine for 35 years that still mostly worked, but was heavy and old. I love the self threader feature and all the stiches that are available easily. I recommend it!

I Love My Skyline S-7
Wednesday, January 31, 2018

I have had my S-7 for 2 years- got it almost as soon as they came out. I work @ a Janome dealer Delaware Sewing Center, Dover, DE, and have access to all the machines. I picked this one because of the 9 mm stitch width, the one-step needle plate conversion, and the automatic presser foot up/down.

Very Impressive S7
Thursday, February 1, 2018

I recently purchased the Skyline S7 from AAA Sewing to have a lighter machine for sewing groups and retreats. I am very impressed with the S7. I was doing some quilt piecing and it sewed even, kept fabric feeding evenly and has a beautiful stitch. The S7 surprisingly has many features mirroring the more expensive machines and sews just as well. Great that it has a 9mm stitch capability. With all the needle positions, I was able to obtain the perfect scant 1/4 inch seams for my quilt project. Since it is a recent purchase I have not yet tried all the many features but am very happy and satisfied with the ones I have used thus far.

I love my Skyline7. I haven't purchased a sewing machine since the 80's. My Janome is easy to use and functional and powerful with consistant stitching. I purchase my machine because I decided to learn quilting. My Janome has made my quilting journey a breeze. Now I am learning to free motion quilt on my Janome as well. Best sewing machine i ever had.

I am very pleased with the S7. I am a quilter. I LOVE the easy access to the feed dogs for cleaning! I'm also fond of the 9mm stitch width. The accuracy of the feed system makes piecing a joy. This machine is a workhorse but a pretty workhorse!

A Very Nice Machine With A Few Flaws
Thursday, February 1, 2018

This may be a repeat review. My cat stepped on my keyboard and sent my un-completed review a minute ago. I will start over, please discard the first review if it arrived to you. Overall, the S7 is a very nice machine. I replaced a lemon machine of another brand with the S7. I am happy with the machine, but it has a few flaws that make it a bit awkward. The needle threading button is poorly placed. It gets in the way when replacing feet, or needles. This makes it difficult to change the feet and to detatch and attach the ankle (foot holder). I have small-ish "lady hands", so that is not the problem. I see that the newer machine (S9?) has an improved design in that area. I do like that the nose of the machine actually opens up, so I can remove accumulated lint etc. The needle threader works well, as well as the cutter, which has been a big "fail" in other machines I have owned. The biggest flaw is that the walking feet do not engage the little arm that grabs the top layer of fabric as soon as I start to sew, I have to advance the beginning of each seam around 1/2", which leaves the first part of each seam un-sewn. Using the reverse just makes the fabric bunch up, especially at the end of the seam. I have been advised to use a leader when sewing, but a machine of this class should not require that extra step. Using the lock stitch button does not help at the beginning of a seam, but it often does at the end of a seam. The automatic buttonhole foot is a sewer's dream. Love that. The lighting is good, and the stitch quality is very nice. Except for the alphabets, those are only so-so. I still have to use my old standby machine from the 80s to do anything heavy like jeans hems, sewing on medium to heavy home-dec weight fabrics. This is a great machine for everyday sewing, quilting, but don't ask it to do the heavyweight stuff.

Very good machine
Thursday, February 1, 2018

I replaced another very high-end brand machine with the S7; the other machine was so incredibly complicated to use that it made everything a chore. I love the ease of use and straightforward approach to most applications on the S7. I wanted a machine that: sewed heavy duty fabrics with ease; made good-looking buttonholes; had a wide selection of straight, knit and zig-zag stitches, and a few embroidery stitches. I am very pleased with the S7!

I got my Skyline S7 in 2016 because I only had a straight stitch machine at home. Got to use it during a class and bought it that day. Love it! I've used it for a lot of quilt piecing and free motion quilting, and have embellished a few quilts with the decorative stitches. Especially love the AccuFeed foot compared to other walking foot systems.

Sew every day!
Friday, February 2, 2018

I have had my S7 a little over a year and I love it. I try to sew at least a little bit every day -- it is my way to relax and unwind. The ease of use of the S7 helps me accomplish that mission!! I am a relatively novice sewer -- this is my second machine. I have taught myself to sew and quilt just with the manual and You Tube :) so I don't have a lot to compare with but.... if I can figure it out and make it work, it has to be easy! I know I am only touching the tip of the iceberg as far as the machine's capabilities. I hope as time goes by I will learn to use all of the wonderful features to their full extent. I will keep my eye out for classes at my LQS where I purchased this machine.

Skyline 7
Saturday, February 3, 2018

My husband bought me the Skyline 7 for our 40th anniversary. I wanted a smaller machine to take to class and quilting groups. I own a 15000 and love sewing, quilting, embroidering on it but not carrying it around. I decided on the Skyline 7 because it has almost the same controls, feet and feel of the 15000. I have taken it to the Quilt guild and demonstrated ruler work, free-motion quilting and decorative stitching. It is what I use when the 15000 is embroidering. I sew a lot for two small grandchildren from toys to clothes. Great machine! whether it is your only machine or your second machine, the Skyline 7 makes creating with fabric a pleasure.

Overall, I love my Skyline S7. The only frustration has been the needle threader. It hasn’t worked the majority of the time I’ve owned it (18 months). Last technician seems to have had more success. Keeping my fingers crossed. Other than that, it has performed beautifully.

Skyline S7
Sunday, February 4, 2018

Within 1st month of ownership I had to have the needle threaded replaced-it never worked correctly from the first moment out of the box. In my 2 yrs. of owning this machine, I have had to have the following fixed: thread shredding at needle, tension disks too tight breaking thread, skipping stitches, and bobbing not winding low weight thread. The bobbin still does not wind correctly as it also breaks the thread. It also doesnt like to stitch the seam on a normal nested 4 patch block; it gets stuck on the seam and stitches in place until i pull the block and help it through the seam. I have had other JANOME's and never any problems. I think I may have a lemon. When, on rare occasions when everything works and it sews accurately, I love it. OTher than that, it is the most frustrating machine I have ever owned. When you spend upwards of $2000 for a machine it should work properly. I don't know if I'll ever buy another Janome after this experience. It would be nice to jave an email or phone number listed for contacting Janome other than just take to dealer when obviously the machine isn't up to par.

Great Machine!
Sunday, February 4, 2018

I purchased the S7 approximately 4 months ago and have used it almost every day since. It is easy to learn and has lots of great features that I love. The accu feed is perfect for thick fabrics, fabrics that love to shift or when you are trying to match fabric pattern. Love the automatic buttonhole foot and stitches! It makes sewing jean buttonholes so easy and professional looking. I have also started using the lock stitch button. It is great when you do not want to see any back stitching. Top stitching is excellent and it is easy to use the twin needle. I bought lots of extra feet with my machine and have had fun learning how to use them. I also got the "footbook" app which has been a great help. My husband loves how quiet it is. Overall, it is a great machine. I have not found any negatives in using it. It has elevated my sewing and it has been so fun to use. Thanks Janome for making such a great machine!

Skyline S7 after one year
Sunday, February 4, 2018

I've had this machine for a little over a year now and I really do like it. Previously, my good machine was a Pfaff. The only thing that I wish this machine had is a built-in walking foot like the Pfaff did and the ability to wind a bobbin without unthreading the machine. Otherwise, this is a great machine. I am still learning everything it can do, even after taking the dealer supplied classes. One of my favorite things is the extra wide throat. Two factors influenced my purchase of a Janome machine: 1) the dealer was close enough to get service and 2) I have an 8050 purchased as Hancock's to use for a travel machine and I also purchase two cheaper Janome machines to keep at each of my daughter's homes. I figured if they were good machines for the low price, then the S7 would have to be a good machine, too. The final decision came down to a the S7 or a Bernina and I liked this better.

I traded in my 25 year old machine because I wanted to take advantage of the new features offered now and I'm so happy that I chose the S7. It's a very sturdy, dependable machine with every feature I could ever want. I do general sewing - clothing, totes & bags, household items, and it makes sewing a pleasure.

Review S7
Monday, February 5, 2018

I really love my machine, this is my 2nd Janome. But I must say that the instruction manual is one of the worst I've ever seen. It makes it very difficult to learn how to use the machine. One should not have to go to the internet to figure out how to use this machine. The machine gets 4.5 stars, the instruction manual gets -1!

I Love my machine. It does everything I need it to do and more. Love the variety of stitches and the all the features it has. Looked at upgrading and decided not to, due to the fact that I would lose some of the features that I like the most on my machine. So no plans to change machine anytime soom

I really like the S7 have had for about a year now. The needle threader is a problem though. It works sometimes sometimes it doesn't. I like how smooth material moves in the machine. I need to learn more about all the features and how to do more things. I sew quilts with my machine. Get help at my local quilt store they are great with showing or helping!

Great support for learning to use the Janome Skyline S7
Sunday, February 11, 2018

Having just retired, I am really enjoying sewing again. I purchased my Skyline S7 in January 2017. It has performed well over the last year and I am satisfied. Kudos go to the teaching team at the Santa Fe Sewing Center where I bought the machine. The owners and their staff are great! They are supportive and knowledgeable. Without the classes they offered, my experience and progress with my Skyline S7 might have been much different. I was quickly able to do all the things I wanted to do with it.

Wonderful machine!
Tuesday, May 8, 2018

I've had my s7 about 16 months now, and have used it almost daily during that time. It is a wonderful machine. I enjoy every minute I spend using it. It's almost self-explanatory to learn and has so many great features. It makes sewing easier and makes the things I make look good. So far, I haven't found anything that it doesn't do well. I am very glad I bought it and can't imagine wanting any other sewing machine.

Problems with the Threader
Sunday, May 26, 2019

I really like the S7, however have brought it on. Couple of times already for the threader. Works awhile then bs k to having problems with it🙄. Would have given it a 5 star if not for the threader problem.

I am in LOVE with the S7
Monday, July 15, 2019

I am kind of shocked that this machine does not have a solid overall 5 star review. I understand the one lemon a user here received (it happens will all sewing machine brands, just like anything else you buy). I was a little intimidated by the digital screen and options but the manual was easy to read and there are plenty of videos online. For the price, this machine has more options than other competitors and practically sews itself. I have sewing experience but maybe I am not a professional like the other users here but I would still give this a solid 5 stars, a million stars if I could. The options are amazing, the machine is quiet and the stitches are clean and professional looking. I love all the sewing feet you can buy too. As for sewing thick layers, I sewed through 6 layers of a thick vinyl material that I want to make a purse out of. You just need the right plate, foot and a leather needle. It sewed through the thick fabric like a dream. This machine can handle leather and thick fabrics like denim right down to a very thin crepe. And don’t forget all the quilting options as this machine quilts beautifully! The only thing I would add to the machine is a thread spool sensor as you can't see your spool( I can see the bobbin thread). I love the size (it is a heavy machine to pick up for some) for quilting but it is still a good size to put in a trolley to tote to classes. I have had other Janome machines before and this one just takes the cake. Thank you Janome! I am having so much fun with my machine and I know it will serve me well for years to come!

I use this machine to sew bags, quilt, embroidery designs with the fancy stitches it has built in, and for garment sewing. It has so many options for stitches that I find myself exploring every time I sew. I really love the speed control- my Daughter isn't afraid to use this machine now and then. The design is also really clean looking, and I like the weight of it.

Consistent and Reliable
Tuesday, February 16, 2021

My Skyline S7 is a very reliable, un-finicky machine and I love working with it. I sew a lot of garments so I don't use the decorative stitches often but love the garment section of the stitch menu. That, by itself, makes this machine wonderful. I used to rely on my knee lifter on my old machine which got in the way of my particular sewing table but the automatic presser foot lifter has made my need for a knee lifter obsolete and opened up a much-needed space under my table. The automatic threader is a bit touchy and sometimes decides not to work but that's not a deal-breaker for me. In fact, it's not even enough to warrant losing a star because the rest of the machine is wonderful. It gets a lot of daily use and I never get tired of sitting down in front of it because I know each sewing project is going to go well because of this Skyline S7.

love this machine. this machine has a ton of features and stitches. Sewed my husband's belt 4 layers of leather no issues. My dealer had a class which was very helpful just to learn navigation of stitches (this is my first Janome, it has sold me I am now a Jamone TOP FAN). only thing i wish it would do is tell me when the bobbin is empty but a great machine for the cost.
